Supporting the local economy (who are the local providers)

I love San Diego, been there many times but first time I'll have time to play. San Diego seems to be a "tourist destination" for providers..so I know when I come in June, I will see plenty of visiting providers listings.

But who are the local recommended providers? more south San Diego but will have vehicle to drive within reasonable distance.

(It also seems like city vibe and back page are popular too....am I wrong?)
