Is the day over?
How'd it work out?
Was there hoogar looting and burning or was it just a quiet festival of fun and frivolity?
What cities celebrated and if so, what did they do?
Was the Austin chapter involved in the celebrations?

The very few members who are a part of the newly formed SWOP-Dallas met on the evening of December 17th, at a local restaurant, to honor those who have been killed while being a sex worker.
I don't believe that any partying was taking place before or afterwards. More of a meeting atmosphere with ideas being shared of what we can do to make our world a better place.
Nice topic, Sue. I'm pretty surprised that the topic went south. Guess by now, I shouldn't be.
Happy holidays,
Elisabeth

Might I offer a bit of corrective criticism for future endeavors in this arena? And devoid of any attempts at Toyz smartassedness?
When a topic like this is presented to this audience, you KNOW its going to get its share of negative sideline banter. Its like walking into a group of Republicans & telling them you think they are better off without guns.
THEN you take the bait, and jump all over the differing opinions...you are like a fish on a hook..."GOTCHA"...
And presenting it as if "every guy is a potential abuser" just pisses me off. When the facts are its a VERY , VERY small percentage of mongers who would fall into the abuser or misstreater category isn't it? Labeling the whole-OR EVEN THE MAJORITY-as haters or abusers doesnt help with your cause. In fact, its a poorly disguised men bashing thread most of the time when its launched. {{{Circa Nightmare Sally/EFN}}}
Clean up your presentation. KNOW who your audience is. DON'T expect to beat them into acceptance, rather win them over with reasons that are tangible to them.
I still struggle with WHAT are you trying to accomplish? In none angry, non-threatening terms WHAT do you expect to accomplish? Show me your "business plan" if you will. WHATS the scope? WHO are you trying to influence? HOW do you intend to deliver your message?
I mean this as a help, not a hinderance. All you are doing with this is polarizing two "sides" against each other. I doubt there are 2% of the men here who think evil thoughts against women...THATS your enemy (if there is one), not the other 98% of us.
I'm all for fair treatment of women in this "sport". In fact, if you EVER find one that says I havent treated her like a cherished friend & not a sex worker, please shoot her because she is a liar.

Toys, I just wanted to have a thread where we recognize and discuss the real issue this thread is about. You know I like you and all the toyz funny stuff is fine in coed, you provide a real service to distract us at times but i feel it diminished the original conversation here. I understand you're here for fun but this is a problem with just one day of real worldwide discussion. every time this issue gets broached in Austin it gets poo pahed by the usual suspects as uninteresting and unimportant with derision and rude comments to the effect of your concerns do not matter and you are boring us on this topic. pardon me but this life and death and it is dead serious to us and this is a real worldwide issue.

I am sure it went south due to the messenger and not the message. I have dealt with that myself a time or two.
Realistically though. It seems to have very little support and generate very little interest. In communities like this these causes seldom take root without someone that is well known with a following that is a victim.
Even the facebook page locally for the cause had almost no support. and certainly not a single fuckable face.

Sue, it's likely that if you, or other Austin based sex workers get in touch with SWOP USA, they'd have resources on how to start a chapter in Austin.
