Default More Gun Talk

Been looking at the Ruger Precision Rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor.
Anyone have any experience with the rifle or the caliber?

I shot a 6.5 Grendel back before it was scraped by the military. Nice little round. If I'm not mistaken I would stay away from the 6.5 just because the market isn't that open to it. You should jump on the 300 Blackout wagon. Prices have really dropped on that market and that's such a sweet round.

I've fired a buddy's 6.5. Great round with all around good characteristics. But, like was mentioned, it's not very common so it's gonna be pricey. To me, it's all about both affordability and availability. No point in having a kick ass rifle if you can't either afford to shoot it very often or if you can't shoot it often because you can't find the rounds.

I'm getting ready to buy myself a Springfield M1. Looking at the scout model.

The 6.5 Creedmoor is available in many factory loads.
Many gun makers are offering it as well.
It is more of a long range shell with a high ballistic coefficiency.
You must be referring to the oddball European cartridges.

If i'm not mistaken....the Japanese used a 6.5mm until 1945.

Probably easier to get the ammo for 6.5x55 sweedish for the sweedish mauser. Ammotogo.com always has a good supply. Its the outfit in Brenham. I still see the rifle at the local gun shows. The round cost about 80 cents a round if you buy the Privi Partison brand. It has a high ballistic coefficient. With a good scope on a 6.5x55 rifle you should be able to hit a deer in the shoulder at 200 yards. The effective firing range of a model 1896 sweedish mauser is 656 yards according to Wikipidea. You might be better off to get a surplus rifle in the sweedish caliber and get a gunsmith to put a high power scope on a model 1896 unless your dead set on buying a Ruger.
