There's very few places to stay in Artesia; Best Western and La Quinta have been there forever. I would recommend Comfort Inn and Suites. The rates are high because of all the oil guys down south so expect to pay between $100 - $200. Roswell has cheaper rates and the population is about 50,000 but it's 40 miles north and doesn't have a strip bar that i know of. Artesia is a small town, but has the only strip bar down south, besides Alamogordo. The hotel rates there are way cheaper than Carlsbad. State Police usually patrol right outside of Vaughn and Roswell, as well as between Roswell and Artesia. Have a safe trip.
