I guess if you want to walk through life under the false pretense that the Government has your back you can do that if you wish. You haven't come up with anything that confirms that though. Our Freedoms and Liberties are first and foremost, security and safety are secondary. America has never fought a war at home or abroad for the sake of safety but rather for the sake of freedom.

Our freedoms and liberties are worthless if we don't live in a world where we feel safe enough to enjoy them.

Hahahahahaha, that's a good one. What is the Government doing that ultimately keeps you safe? Without our freedoms and liberties safety and security will ultimately be the blanket that smothers us all.

Why is this so confusing. The Government implements safety measures. Traffic controls are safety measures to assure safe driving. Not everybody obeys them that's the primary cause of vehicular accidents. Even though driving is a privilege and not a right we still have the freedom to travel without restriction. What if the Government imposed restrictions on the hours people can drive for the sake of safety. Between 4am and 6pm would be the only times people can drive in an effort to reduce traffic fatalities. So a kid goes to work at 2pm in the afternoon and gets off at 7pm now he can't drive home. The whole point everyone is making is that safety is not the sole responsibility of government and safety implemented by the government should not restrict our freedoms and liberties.

I never said safety was the sole responsibility of government and in fact I said that safety from private citizens isn't guaranteed in any way. If you don't think that safety should restrict our freedoms and liberties, then why are you conservative? That's all they do.

What you actually said was Safety was the first duty of Government and you're wrong. Safety is not the Governments first duty or sole duty however you want to put it.

Actually, I'm not. This is a debate that has been ongoing for a very long time.
"Government's first duty is to protect the people, not run their lives."
That's your boy, Ronnie.
"The first duty of any government is to protect the public."

What a coward. Also, James Holmes received his sentence yesterday. I don't think life in jail will stop others from shooting random people. Maybe we could start by putting metal detectors everywhere and have security near by. But then again, even airports are not 100% safe with all that. This world is going insane, it's so sad.
