Our next biggest competitor is China where the average person makes a fraction of what an American does so that tends to reduce cost. The US also builds more technologically advanced systems like aircraft carriers, stealth fighters, nuclear submarines. That costs money in order to win wars and save lives. You do think American lives matter don't you? The latest drone programs will probably begin saving money as people are replaced by machines...
Our responsibilites literally span the globe which no one else is able or wants to do. As a percentage of our total budget the US spends about 3.8% and that has been decreasing (as is our GDP). Russia, Saudi Arabia, and Israel spend a greater percentage.

Peace always comes at a price though the peace has been rather shaky the last few years because of miscues, malfeasance, and incompetence.
You are full of shit- The so-called Highly advance U.S F-35 fighter that cost 1.2 trillion dollars can't even fly in bad weather : http://www.globalresearch.ca/the-f-3...system/5390065

Ooooohhh. A whole trillion over 8 years. Big fucking deal. By the time we pay off Iraq and Afghanistan we'll be out $6 Trillion.

If the Defense department rooted out the massive corruption in the procurement procedure, quit funding stupid studies, paid market price for common tools and equipment, ended unnecessary and unwanted weapons programs and bases, reformed retirement policies to make sense in the 31st century, they'd have more than enough money to defend us. Until then, no increase. In fact, we need to cut their budget to force their hand.

Or when the military stated they did not need or want more tanks, but the lawmakers in that area did not want the job loss. So they kept on building tanks.....

How much is enough spending on Defense? Republicans NEVER seem to be able to answer that question.

The U.S. made a HUGE mistake by invading Iraq and Afghanistan. These wars will cost AT LEAST $1 Trillion, and that doesn't even cover the increased cost of long-term health care for Veterans.

Given how Republicans always whine about "reducing spending", why isn't Defense included in this?
Now you're going to piss off your boyfriend who has written that both wars cost over 3 trillion dollars (but he was lying). Exactly what was the mistake of invading Afghanistan? That is where the Taliban was who attacked us and even Obama thought it was the "good war". As for how much should defense cost...the GOP has answered that question everytime they support a budget. Now that Harry Reid can't stop them maybe we'll get a budget for the first time in what? Five years? Or is it six years now?

Penis Lover you too should go find a servicemen's survivors and say to them, I didn't want to pay for up armored Humvees and your son died. That was the position of the democrats when both wars started. They didn't authorize money for such foolish products but they howled long and hard blaming Bush for what they did. You are just like your boyfriend...a dumb, mindless fuck.

You claim I was lying and yet you provide no proof. Well, here's your proof. $4 to $6 Trillion.

What was the mistake in invading Afghanistan? Ask the Russians that question. They tried and failed. And you continue your lies when you mention the humvees. The WH budget did not allot enough for the proper number of up-armored humvees, you fucking liar.

You continue to lie and I continue to hand you your fucking ass on a plate. Keep it up. I'll keep doing what I'm doing. You make this shit easy.

Exactly, so much waste, which could be used more efficiently for the whole of society. Too bad wars make so much money for just a few at the top.
