That was not nice, I was reviewing the rules....Do they not pertain to you? My confusion seems that I have seen posters with the Banned logo under their name for things not even written in the guidelines and then I see this, which is blatant in it's disregard of several guidelines.

Where in the guidelines does it say anything about not linking two handles? I see where you posted rule #5 but I do not see that in the rule. It might help others in the future were it there. If it is in the rules somewhere else, please point it out for me. Thank you and have a blessed day.

Do you understand the difference between linking a handle and say contacting your Boss that you post on eccie or your wife?

Which do you think worse? A deliberate attempt to out you or someone answering a question on who another is? Should you not too... be able to question who a person used to be? Should you not be able to speculate (albeit incorrectly who a new handle is?)

Remember that one does not even seem to be in the guidelines. It seems you have to be a mind reader to know that a person has guested their account to hide from others. Maybe we could put a sticky to show guested accounts and the concern for not linking them to a new account.

Also , it would seem that there would be some concern that if the guested account show some effort in removing her other advertisements from all over the net.

In the case of a provider, no not really. Names are often changed due to situations that require a clamp-down of security in order to preserve the line between providerland and reality.

In addition-- I have seen gents get caught by their SO's.... leave the board for a bit, then change their handle and come back. It would most certainly be outing if someone on the open board connects the two handles. This is why the board allows for a full guesting and return with a "clean slate" if certain conditions are met.

Some guidelines are left open to moderator interpretation while others are black and white. The ones you reference are of the former variety. It is the position of the Houston moderator team that, to the extent possible, people should be allowed to speak freely and be real with each other.

We're all adults here and people are perfectly capable of defending themselves, having heated discussions, disagreements, sharing offensive opinions, etc. without moderators getting involved. We do not hold people's hands nor are we under some kind of delusion that trying to create a "Kinder, Gentler Eccie" can succeed if it stems from authoritarian and draconian moderation style. When possible, moderators do nothing and let people work it out on their own.

We draw the line at direct and specific insults but aside from that it's not our job to protect people from getting their feelings hurt on the internets. Nor is it our job to make sure noone is ever offended. That asshole you don't like is just as entitled to his opinions as you are to yours.

To paraphrase Voltaire, "I may not agree with your stupid opinion, but I'll fight to the death to protect your right to express it over and over again in dumbass fashion on a hooker board".
