Another crap multi-chain franchise concept. Serving up factory food.

You want a great sandwich go to Carbone's, or Jimmy's, or a number of other places that aren't corporate chains.

Al's and Portillo's are Chicago institutions. (Portillo's has an Orange County location FYI. Sadly though, Portillo's is for sale...)

Roast's is also in Allen, and not bad. They couldn't make it in Little Elm. I'll be getting my Al's fix this weekend.

Never had Jimmy's but I will check it out. There is a place called Tony's in McKinney off Virginia near 75 that sells Italian beef etc. Its ok but Als is better.
I had Gino's and Superdawg when I was in Chicago as well. I normally check out places to eat when I will be visiting a certain city and make it to some of those places. There is a pizza place in NYC near the World Trade Memorial that is pretty good. I think its called Masterpiece Pizza.

I like to support the smaller businesses against the corporate giants, too.

Clearly not someone that has eaten at an Al's. As one of the other guys said, it's an institution. I prefer Mr. Beef on Orleans but Al's isn't far behind. If they can just open a Lou Malnati's down here now!

Haven't tried any of these chains. Hard to imagine they're better than Jimmy's. Plus, you don't have to schlep all the way north out to Addison.

I'm from Chicago originally and have always been disappointed in the availability of both Italian Beefs and good stuffed pizza in the DFW area, especially since The Tomato in Denton/Sanger closed. A good place to try would be Weinberger's Deli. I haven't tried Al's yet (thanks for the tip), but Weinbergers has been my go-to place for Italian Beefs for a few years now. The main store is in downtown Grapevine but they have stores in Westlake on 114 and in downtown Denton too.

I was hooked on stuffed pan pepperoni pizza from The Flying Tomato before it quit flying and became The Tomato. Same succulent pizza. Haven't tried Weinberger's yet, but I hear they have a kick ass reuben. Al's is on my itinerary for tomorrow.

Also GinosEast is supposed to be opening up in Arlington; I like Lous over Ginos by a long shot.
