Well, we know she wasn't "tested" and determined to be "barely above retarded."

Complacent and casual, yes. Careless and negligent it appears as though. Perhaps one day the surveillance video will reveal more than was reported, and the level of her neglect might be elevated above "simple negligence."

As a practical matter I don't leave any of my personal shit in my shopping basket unattended for a moment, except for an umbrella occasionally, but it is usually buried under a bunch items to make it "out of sight" and "out of mind."

And I would NEVER turn my back on a firearm. But I don't live "in the country" now.

There were a couple of cops recently that died in NYC, who were also. Was it there fault they died? Actually not. Their complacency allowed them to remain in situation and place were they were vulnerable.

I like the comment about the John Gosselin animals outside....I kept a bunch of cats alive at the local hardware store for two years until the city took notice. During that time I trapped, spayed, and neutered about 20 of them on my own dime and a local animal rescue place. I kept them half way socialized and hope that they found good homes. We could do the same with the insane or mentally challenged. Hey! We tried that already back in the 1920s but they went so far as to sterlize people who were black, indian, and sluts. How many of you guy's were allowed to touch your mother's purse? I know the article says the kid was 2 yo but I don't remember actually being allowed to touch my mom's purse. I don't even recall being told NOT to touch it. I probably touched it once and got the shit beat out of me.
