Nowadays, the alcohol version is mostly bourbon, some add a bit of brandy and/or rum
Eggs of course, milk, sugar, heavy cream & more.
Historically, Egg & grog. Or, egg in a "noggin" (wood drinking cup or old English beer)
Shakespeare's MacBeth comes to mind as that was the drink that was drugged to knock out the king's guards.
