kindle vs. nook..... which do you prefer?

I have the ipad. Before buying I figured it was useless but then apps came out that allowed me to scan my entire private book collection into pdf format and convert to e-pub. I now have over 70 of my own private educational books loaded into it in both book/e-pub and pdf format. As a writer I am able to take a snap shot of any section of any page blow it up and e-mail from any coffee shop with wi-fi while I'm out and about. Can also manipulate the pdf pages with the "Pages" app. Didn't get the 3g as I already have an i-phone and can't justify paying for two plans. I am literally able to make my living hanging out at coffee shops. I also have netflix on it so I rest it on the book holder of my elliptical and watch instant movies while doing cardio. Ain't technology grand?

Funny that you mentioned Ipad. Apple is having a press conference to announce the Ipad2. I will most likely get the Kindle and just wait and see what improvements they make on the Ipad 2 and purchase one. That should cut the prices down big on the first Ipad. I might go that route because the "older" Ipad would still be worlds better than the Kindle or Nook. Kindle will be my test to see if I like the ebook concept in practice. Sounds good in theory...

Thought I'd add this url for anyone interested.

It offers a lot of great 411 that us closet techno-nerds take for granted. I happened to be out with a client a few weeks ago and needed to pull up a pdf I had squirreled away for him. I had a little Chinese clone I've been tweaking for my daughter with me and pulled up my desktop up remotely, dug it out and sent it to him (via email) while loading it up for him to read on the tablet. He had a question so I called the author (who I had met at a conference) and left him a message. Fielded the return call later during lunch (got to love google voice)...all on a ~$120 tablet (bigger with better resolution and more powerful processor then the color nook)...

While they're similar form factor, I don't think iPad or a generic Android tablet is a good comparison against an ereader with e-ink. It's a fundamentally different reading experience.

I agree. My Kindle (and I assume the Nook) is like reading a book... easy on the eyes. My iPad is like reading a computer screen, which can be hard on the eyes after awhile.

(....and no, my iPad has never been inside a strip club!)

I own Kindle.
Pros:
no backlite.. this is a pro because it makes the battery last soooo long. With Wifi off.
I dont read in places that dont have a lite available but I do like to read outside. Kindle is the best for sunshine reading.

free books... Baen Free Library has hundreds of free recent Si fi for free. I have more then paid for the Kindle over the past year with free books.

easy download... at Amazon or Baen.. just email to my Kindle

I dont know if nook has it but built in dictionary that defines words when cursor is placed next to them.

Cons:
not all books are available soon after release. They go through the Hardback to paperback to electronic slide.

Airlines make you turn it off at take off and landing.

Its not a book? I too thought "Oh no! I like books too much". But when I started using Kindle I realized that NO! I like to read!

Multiple books are needed since sometimes I fly 17 hours one way. One needs many books to go back and forth during a 17 hour flight.

It is always there. Right there in my briefcase. Doctor, Dentist, flights, lay overs. Waiting in the car. Oil changes, car wash.
