Default Robin Williams

RIP - Mr. Robin Williams - You could always make me laugh and for that I will miss you soooo much. But, my friend, I am not surprised. It has been a long hard fight for you.

He was a great comic, but like several great comics, he had real life issues that he found hard to deal with. Loved the moving Good Morning Vietnam, as he went back and did comic routines back in the day, such as political jokes time period appropriate.

In Iraq, he came through on a USO tour. I left work early to get a good seat and got front and center. He saw my rank (Lieutenant Colonel) and came off the stage and sat in my lap.
RW - How ya doing Colonel.
Me - Just fine Mr. Williams.
He points at my branch designation on my collar.
RW - What does that mean.
Me - That means I am an Intelligence Officer.
That was all he needed - I have never laughed so hard in my life.

THAT, would be an awesome memory you will cherish even more now I'm guessing. COOL!!

It's always so sad when a person feels so much pain they feel the only way to escape it is to take their own life... no matter how bad one thinks they have it, there's always someone out there who has it worse... Sad

Mr Williams had a true gift...

My favorite with him was one time on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson (yes, there was a Tonight Show prior to Fallon and Leno....but no, I don't remember when Steve Allen did it, LOL). The guest sits in the chair next to Johnny, and Johnny carries on an interview/conversation. Typically. Johnny did not get a question out. Robin started to ad lib, and Johnny was speechless with laughter and that went on for several minutes, apparently during the commercial break as well.

That's a true talent.

Unfortunately, with true talent often comes a tormented soul. And with the stigma that mental illness and "getting treatment" carries in this country, it's a wonder anyone gets treatment for depression or any other mental illness. Even when it's become trendy to "go to Betty Ford Clinic," treatment for mental illness remains in the shadows.

He's around my age. I have been his fan ever since Mork and Mindy. He was my generations Jonathan Winters. Could adlib better than anyone I ever saw. R.I.P.

Loved his stand-ups and definitely can't look at Patch Adams, The Birdcage, Jumanji, Hook, Mrs. Doubtfire etc the same for a long time. :/
