Default Here In Texas...

It strikes me as funny that in a state where people clamor and rail about 2nd Amendment rights, limited government, and states rights, there'd be so little freedom.

You don't get more "Red" than Texas. I mean think about it, the majority of people in this state think "open carry" should be the law. Why isn't prostitution legal here?

And I know people are going to mention the Bible Belt thing, but that (in reality) is in conflict with the purest conservative view.

There is no connection between the two at all. Very, very, different issues. Being pro 2ed amendment is in no way connected to other issues like prostitution. If you really think the lack of legal prostitution is a major issue limiting "freedom" in Texas, you really need to live in states like New York. Go try to buy a jumbo sized fountain soda in NYC and then come back and complain about lack of freedom in Texas.

I agree and disagree . . . basically because gun rights and personal "freedom" that conflicts with local "morality" concepts is so very human. Similarly, in many places where prostitution is legal, the freedom concepts so common in Texas are VERY different. For example see the UK, Mexico, Canada where gun rights are severely curtailed. Then there are places like NYC, NJ, or Mass where you have the worst of both worlds.

Many/Most "civilians" in Texas believe that in the most part, prostitution is crack whores giving BJs on street corners and that most/all the women are forced into it and must be protected. I can tell you that is how my next door neighbors see it. From casual conversations it is clear that they know next to nothing of Eccie style providers or escorts in general. They TRULY believe prostitution should be banned for that very reason . . . to them it is NOT a victimless crime. Where many, like me, believe that the las should ban and target FORCED prostitution. If both parties are willing it should be no harm, no foul.

They have similar ideas about swinging, "its bad", with no real argument beyond that.

People, can't kill 'em, can't live without 'em.

OBTW, Str8, I believe that the concept you are referencing when you mention "purest conservative" is much close to classic Libertarianism than conservatism.

Good subject though, until the nastiness starts.

<<<<< staunch Libertarian. Small Government. Free will and The Free Hand.

Libertarian and Conservative are two entirely different beasts. Even the most conservative conservative is still liberal in the eyes of a libertarian. Libertarian is too free for the US and will never be a reality in any of our lifetimes especially since the government only seems to be getting bigger and bigger and involved with nearly everything. Libertairians believe in the private sector and the power of a man's need to survive is that which drives moral behavior. American society has gone so far away from what a true Libertarian would envision that is it nothing more than that - a vision. Texas is conservatively governed, not freely governed. Big difference.

I totally agree, luckily, Texas is slightly more freely governed than some other states I have lived in. Sorta why I'm here and not there any more

I've been considering a trip to NH to see if they live up to their state motto. Lol.

Texas isn't bad but its all the same when you consider one or the other. For instance, I grew up in a red-turned-blue state and they are actually enjoying more "freedoms" than texas. Albeit legislated, but still, the atmosphere of free living is alive and well outside of Texas. Strange parallel.

Curious, where would that be? I'm not "stuck" in Texas

OBTW, prostitution is illegal in NH.

LOL, a man's need to survive will NOT drive moral behavior! In fact it will and has fueled greed! I can point to quite a few big examples but we can discuss that privately.

We definitely should. Its certainly not a topic for a discussion board. Way too involved and is the basis for all political differences - what man is really capable of and to what extent government should be involved . Let me know when

Well, it is a pretty liberal state now (the one I grew up in). And yes I know prostitution is illegal in NH, I just wonder about the social climate and the cultural "feel". Is it really live free or die??? I was kinda joking earlier, but I wonder if they live up to the motto. Lol

And for good reason BSB. We can withdraw money for our favorite escort and make a donation for forgiveness without crossing the street.
