Talking Ms Green Bean

I'm a metal head and most of the music on my android is metal/rock-centric.
But for some freaking reason there are pop or rap songs out there that I like and I feel so guilty about it.
But a particular provider here recently told me that even if you're a rocker/metal head, its okay to embrace catchy pop or rap music you wouldn't normally listen to.

I create this post for her, Ms Green Bean.

and this is my song that I'm ashamed to admit I like:

God, I'm gonna have to listen to Black Label Society for 3 hours straight now

I like what David Bowie said about Lorde: "I listen to her and hear tomorrow." No greater praise I know.

Remember quite a few people talking about her before I knew she became famous. Congrats to her.

Great praise from Bowie, indeed.

Others have made the transition from heavy metal to pop. Remember Michael Bolton?

I have encountered songs outside of the genres I like that either I liked right away or grew on me over time. Nothing guilty about it. Variety is the spice of life, after all.

Thank you for posting. I can totally come out of the closet. I like Blurred Lines and Swagger Jagger. Thanks for allowing me a forum to admit my transgressions. Both of those tunes are way out of genres i would normally listen to.

Default Pride is frequently counter-productive

I used to be the same exact way. I felt like if I admit to liking songs in a "Soft" genre I was somehow betraying my ROCK roots!

As I got older I realized this nugget of Wisdom:
"You like what you like. You don't need to understand WHY. Also, denying that you like it just creates discord in your soul AND it won't stop you from liking it any less...
So for greater happiness, just embrace what you are and live vividly."

The perfect example of this is in the 80's my sister LOVED hair bands. In particular Bon Jovi. Therefore I hated them. F'n posers! I liked Iron Maiden, Rush, Van Halen, Judas Priest.
Decades later (once no longer over-saturated by hearing these songs 10x a day) I heard "Dead or Alive" by Bon Jovi and thought to myself (before my right-brain engaged) "I've always liked that song. I haven't heard it in so long. It is really VERY well performed."
Then right-brain caught up and was like WTF???? That's friggin Bon Jovi you're "supposed to" hate them.
Then I realized it was silly. I really DO like a lot of their songs. LOL!

Default One more thought

P.S. The first time I heard Glamorous I was in a Strip Club. That gives it a TOTALLY different value. Such sensual visions to such a sensual song. It made it 10x more awesome, whenever I hear it now I always think of those gyrating GORGEOUS young bodies inches from my face.

Am I a poser for saying, "I like that song!" ... um Ok, at least I'm a Happy poser. :thumbs-up:

With the 60's rock and the 70's sleeving into it fairly well, I wondered WTF happened in the 80's! I was royally lost. Flock of Seaguls (throw alka seltzer at them!), Men without Hats (get skin cancer!) etc.

But I came around later on and enjoy them. And I am wondering where I was not knowing The Cure, The Smiths, etc. I was so glad that KMFDM got back together so that I could hear them live.

(Oddly) I haven't played gta5; I didn't know that. Just goes to show that they do their homework and try to mirror reality, because when it came out strippers went crazy and their D.J.s played it with more over-kill than radio stations.

Strip club D.J.s usually don't take requests because the girls own the songs they dance, but you can bribe your favorite stripper to get it played AND dance it just for you. I HIGHLY recommend it. It will blow your mind, savak!
