I read it back in the day. Probably high school. It's on one of my top books lists because it IS such a great book and has a lot of visual acuity going on when reading it.

For those who have seen "Capote", well something that I gleaned from that film is Capote just lost something within himself while doing the research, etc., to write that book. He lost his soul, quite possibly, from being such a liar and doing what he needed to do to get that book written.

I know that this topic isn't about Capote, but if anyone has read about his life, he certainly had his demons and addictions. He basically died from them.

And his last book was less of a novel, it was never completed, but an unreadable mess because from my understanding, he was so messed up while trying to finish it.

Just a wreck of a man. Perhaps that was one of the reasons why Hoffman played the character so well. Maybe he could relate?

Finally, I did appreciate what eccienewbie wrote. I'm not sitting in my chair sobbing that an actor died. It's more of a finite realization that when a person such as this dies from a drug overdose (especially after such a lengthy period of sobriety) that well, for some, it hits close to home.

I liked him as the new game-maker in the Hunger Games- Catching Fire too!

Wonder if they had finished filming his part in the third one yet or if he was even supposed to be in that one.

His role as game maker and now revolutionary was definitely a featured character in the book. Would suck if he had to be recast and we did not get to enjoy a farewell performance ala Heath Ledger.

I read most of the scenes for installments 1&2 of Mockingjay (Hunger Games 2) were complete so they will continue with reg post-production. He did film a pilot for a Showtime series called "Happyish" but it will likely be reshot with another actor playing the lead if the producers decide to continue since all of the episodes except for the pilot are still being written.

The original Dragnet series in the 1950's opened to the public many subjects which hadn't (up to that time) been aired before.

As a very young boy, I hadn't seen anyone barf their guts out because they were going through detox. Back then, those who used drugs were called dopey because that was what their demeanor was.

I thought to myself Why would I want to act like that?

I don't understand the glorification of those who partake.

I watched the movie last night... Book has been ordered from Amazon already. Curiosity and all.

Still, PSH is just one of those actors that never really got to me. Like Christian Bale, I dislike his face and his voice and "acting".... if one can call it that. Capote *almost* saved him for me, but I still dislike him in films.

Eh, he will live on for many from his works.

3 arrests earlier today that are "connected" with PSH's death. http://www.nytimes.com/2014/02/06/ny...eath.html?_r=0

Reading between the lines, it sounds like the arrested folks likely didn't sell the stash found at PSH's place. My guess is the cops think they can lead 'em to the "right" people, and they're gonna sweat it out of 'em.
