I don't think fox news is one of the news organizations pushing a PC agenda? I would say they are one of the only ones that don't.

And MERRY CHRISTMAS!

No matter who it offends

SD2011, Although Robertson’s comments strike a nerve in me personally, I agree with all of your comments about free speech. In the same way, I embrace a free market, which is what is really driving this situation.

Duck Dynasty’s Phil Robertson has the right to express his opinions publicly, however seditious they may be. I do not like his comments, but in many ways I admire the guy. Unlike Paula Dean (whom I find equally offensive) he appears to be willing to accept the consequences and not back down.

Controversy did not get him in trouble: The media industry thrives on controversy because it generates interest which often can translate to profit. Does anyone really think a publicly held media giant like Disney would suspend him simply because they found his comments offensive?

Let’s face it: Disney’s actions were motivated by money. His censorship is simply about the bottom line, as it should be. Their sponsors have built their own brands on image and carefully spend their advertizing dollars to promote it. If they feel the show’s (Robertson’s) image is not in line with their own, they will find a new place to spend their money. Disney took action because their sponsors were objecting. I also do not think his suspension was a surprise to Robertson. He has a history on making such statements and was probably warned numerous times before Disney took action.

On the other hand always will be a (thankfully much smaller) market fueled by those with hate based race and religious beliefs. As an example, you simply need to look at another controversial celebrity “Pat Robertson”. He has willing sponsors.

Disney was simply taking action to buy some time with the sponsors who complained. When “papa duck” returns to the show, advertisers who object to “Duck Dynasty’s” image will eventually leave, and those who do not care will stay..if the price is right. there are other willing sponsors.

Ben, I think you get it. I agree with the rights of both parties (personal and commercial decisions). In my opinion, it was just a great example of distributed (media-driven/politically induced) symptoms of a bigger national (mental) illness.

As a result of these types of things, demands, offended parties, special concessions, labels, etc. (adding up over time), we are slowly being socially Balkanized into opposing agitated silos against each other. That social/political fragmentation by design is not a good path for a nation and if anyone drops their little political (D) or (R) blinders and steps back and really thinks about it (objectively/honestly), they should recognize it's getting progressively worse.

In my opinion, we are all being played. No one is winning except those that wish to see our nation collapse from within.

We seem to lack people in leadership who can even understand the basic premise of a simple game of chess.

Take care Ben (and rest of you guys on this thread too), I hope you all have a great New Year!

FOX pushes a conservative slant. CNN is liberal biased. It's a ying-yang thing.

Wtf was GQ interviewing the Duck Dynasty patriarch anyway???

Maybe he wanted to be off the show and ran up a little advertising surplus before hand. Surely the network's handlers and lawyers screened the Q&A beforehand. This wasn't an accidental spill of hate-ology by any stretch. Controversy means money and I'm betting Phil and Mrs. Kay had about as much media attention as they could stand for one lifetime.

Since they do just fine without the show, the best way to be forgotten is to leave as an undesirable. I bet they are thrilled that all went as planned.

The only thing a majority of Americans feel on this issue is apathy. Those who give a fuck on both sides are fortunately an extremely small minority.

I was wrong again lol. The family eneded up rallying behind Phil and A&E is taking Phil back. Guess He and Mrs.Kay haven't had enough yet. Lol

We've become too comfy in our own country. Maybe it's time that changed.

According to some people, the dude has a right to encourage guys to be pedophiles and rapists. It makes ya wonder who is eating at Cracker Barrel these days.

In my book, he's another fucked up reality TV goober laughing all the way to the bank.
