My ECCIE Reviews
|
I've been a DSC member for over a year. I LOVE it. I could never go back to buying expensive blades. I get the middle option. I saw on the show Extreme Cheapstakes that they would sharpen their blades on a matchbox. I've yet to try that but I'm frugal and eventually will lol.

Was going to do the whole no shave November but I figured I wouldn't be able to zip my pants.

I'm frugal but razors are one place where skimping is perilous. That being said, I won't play ball with any cocksucker (is Gillette Robert Kraft?) that tries to lure me into paying more to match razors to handles. I buy brand name 3-5 blade disposables in large packages, hopefully on sale. I shave inconsistently so sometimes I do let a blade get too old, oh well. Were I a successful capitalist I might look to DSC to save me time but I'm not making money with that time, I can shop for me. I generally distrust outfits like DSC, middlemen are making money from somewhere, its usually either inferior products, or hidden fees.

I just take my Fusion 5 blade cartridge (attached to the handle) and run it the opposite way on an old pair of scrap jeans. It's all the shaving product that gets gummed up between and on the blades that affects the performance, not the actual sharpness of the blades that dulls.

Yes, this actually works. It's pretty amazing how your shave count goes up. More than doubled for me.

Yes, indeed.
I used baby oil after recently running out of RazorGuard's oil-based product. There's certainly nothing magical about the latter, which is ridiculously overpriced for what it is.
Here's another tip for frequent travelers who keep a carry-on bag packed and ready to go at all times:
Dip the cartridge razor from your travel bag in oil, shake off the excess, and put it in one of those Ziploc food storage bags. That way, a drop or two of oil will not leak onto your other stuff, and you'll be able to preserve the cartridge for use on multiple trips.

Or just put it in a pill bottle, which, to me, is easier and less mess in your bathroom kit. If you use a bottle that seals, you can keep some oil in there. Put a couple cartridges in there, just in case one breaks.
I had to finish shaving once with the cartridge held between my fingers, because the attachment point broke when I dropped it in the sink, with no time to go hunt up a replacement. I got it done, but it was a PITA.

This is the razor I use.
It's a modified Merkur Progress with Feather Hi-Stainless Platinum Double Edge Razor Blades. Cost me about $15 for 50 blades. Each blade last 5 days.

Here is the outfit that supply the razor & blades for Dollar Shave Club. I've been using the 6 blade version and will never buy "store bought" again. Free shipping with $25.00 order and it will last me a year.

Seriously? You still use the old style replaceable blade?
I can't remember the last time I used one - if ever.
I think twin and triple blades proved better years ago than a single blade.

Are you talking about just the razor head? They look similar.
But the handles look the same. It does look like Dorco is an even cheaper system. I didn't realize Dollar Shave Club was just a middle man.

Well, it's time to shit or get off the pot.
I went with Dorco and bought the SXA5000, which is the handle for the 6 Blade with Trimmer System. And I got SXA5040 cartridges - 6 packs of 4 cartridges each. All for a bit over $40.
Although I am confuse as to why there is a different handle (SXA1000) for the 6 Blade razor that doesn't have the trimmer blade on the back.
