Default Flights/Suggestions and perhaps an idea or two!

I'm interested in flying to Australia (probably Darwin) in the fall. I'm thinking of some point in October.

I would appreciate some tips on airlines to check out and how simple would it be to make a stop over in Singapore for a few days on the way over or back.

Plus, I'm interested in working while in the country.

I have some pretty good ideas of what is expected but any hints are appreciated.

With that being said, if someone is already planning a trip to Australia (I'm open to destination) and wishes to have a travel companion, I'm VERY interested in finding a special someone to accompany. Remuneration would have to be determined.

Please let me know! Currently, I've been checking flights on cheaptickets and other similar websites. But it's a very long flight and the thought of being in a small seat that whole time is daunting to me.

Thanks!
Elisabeth

I'm headed to Australia in September to visit family in Perth. It's a verrrry long flight but for an extra $175 per flight you can get a bulkhead seat with an extra 5" legroom! Non stop between LA & Sydney is 15+ hours. I prefer Qantas. I've made the trip a dozen time and was once lucky enough to share a 747 with just 40 other people. The service was terrific! Fly mid week - cheaper and not so crowded - and provider services are legal in Australia!

I'm from Australia myself. Qantas is a great airline but not the cheapest by far for what one does get aboard. United Airlines is having a sale right now and much cheaper. If one wants a stopover in singapore why not check out Singapore airlines. They fly to OZ directly and there are great odds that allowes a stopover. Just remember singapore is a bit conserative. I.E chewing gum there is even illegal. lol. I have been there once myself. Hope this helps.

I'm from Australia, and I can tell you that it depends which state you're in as to whether or not provider services are legal, decriminalised, or illegal. Singapore is great too, have spent ages there, food is cheap, but alcohol is insanely expensive, but a stopover is a good idea if you get the chance.

The other flight alternative is to go with a stopover (short, or long) in New Zealand, which breaks up the 15+ hour flight into more manageable segments.

If you're going to Darwin, you should go across to Cairns, and see the Great Barrier Reef, it's a short flight from Darwin. As for flights, well it seems everyone is increasing flight prices these days, not good. Singapore Airlines and Qantas are good, but not "budget" priced usually.

The last time I travelled to Oz I did a two step:

Houston to Singapore (Singapore Airlines)

Singapore to Queensland(Etihad Airlines)

Reasonably priced tickets...just in time for State of Origin #1 and a 14-6 drubbing...(Rugby btw...pretty big over there and elsewhere).

@Elisabeth...need company?
