Question Is the Upstate NY Economy Adversely Effecting Provider's?

Over the last 4 Months or so. I have had the small circle of Provider's that I see in Western NY all tell me the same thing. Namely Client Partonage has been way down for them. Now this is a small sampling and does not represent all Provider's in all areas of WNY. I read a news report recently that profits at the Casinos/Racinos have also been down for the past Year or two. I also read one where a State Official finally admitted that the number of people at or below the "Poverty Line" in the Rochester area was up by 20%. This got me wondering if the Economic conditions in WNY are the Root cause for the lack of Client Patronage (i.e. less "disposable income"). Some of them have also told me that they are seeing more competition from other Provider's in their area. The majority are "New Provider's" which now that we have the Internet and various Hobby sites. Makes entering the Hobby business very easy to do for someone wanting to enter the business (part time or full time) to supplement or replace their income. What do you guys think?

The economy is causing more women to enter the biz. The increase in supply is driving down the price. Nobody I know has cut back, if anything they are hobbying more. They're just spreading it around a lot more. Lot more scammers out there though, be careful.

I haven't seen much of a slow down in dates.I have just noticed more fishing/shopping around and less prebooking with A LOT more wanting last minute dates.

My vote: unreasonable expectations. Just because business is down, doesn't mean it's off in the long term. Patronage may have been overly inflated from the 80s through to recent years, and even a 25% downturn vs LY or over the last few years could still overall be modest growth for decades.

I'm ready to think this because even though it was wrong for Linda Lovelace to make what $500 for Deep Throat, I think it is also askew for modern porn stars to make millions blasting their o-ring.

Offended ladies, I think bankers and doctors and university professors and stock brokers and cops are overpaid to. And many others.

I never did get out all that often, and when I do it is always planned out a minimum of a week ahead of time.

CEOs and politicans (and just just their pay - benifits, too)

Athletes and musicians, at the upper levels, and the bottom feeders that suck their teets. Drew Rosenhaus. How did I forget them?

I know of more busness leaving the state, because of NYS laws and taxes. Some states are a lot more business friendly, and the cost of doing business in tax breaks and incentives is enhanced, and translates to a value add rate is about 40% lower than NYS.

Good article Jack. We mentioned orthodontists last week.

I'd love being a skycap. I almost took one for a ten last year, actually I did, but I was honest and gave it back, and his brothers were all over his shit for getting taken.

Re motivational speakers, I saw Anthony Bourdain was fetching $50 a seat to speak. Really? His show is ok, more the scenery than him.

Ok, we actually went a bit off topic here. But since the dysfunctional Leadership in Albany was brought up. I personally like how they keep kowtowing to the Money guys and other forces out of NYC. Let's just ignore the welfare of the other 98% of the state they are supposed to be governing. And I really like how they (and some of our Federal Representatives) keep talking about and spending our Tax dollars on projects that are supposed to create "High Tech" jobs that are supposed to provide future Employment to the residents of this State. I'm not sure where they are expecting to get the skilled workers for these jobs. Every single School district that is in a major city in NYS currently has a 50% or less Graduation rate. That is pretty appalling and should be a priority to get fixed. But that's not even on their radar. They are more interested in taking Guns away from their Legal Owners and throwing road blocks up to the development of "Fracking" in the state. And we're dumb enough to just keep re-electing the same people over and over. Ok, time for me to get off the soap box now. I would much rather be on a Provider anyway.

I appreciate the man's talent, I think a major concert with high overhead should be $50, a guy speaking, that's steep. I checked the web and didn't notice it being a benefit either.

We got way off point, but if anyone can explain the provider plight it's probably Bourdain.

Economy wise, I see one of the necessary solutions being a restructuring of our governments. At the state level, balancing the city with the upstate interests is near impossible and methinks people get hurt.
