Well, 67 of 68 teams will eventually lose in the tournament. So you can almost always count on every team to lose in the tourney. KU has won 3 of 41 times, so better than most of the teams who even qualify.

ok i'll reword it ... you can almost always count on KU (a team that always has a top 5 recruitment class every year, always a AP ranked top 10 team, almost always a high seed in the NCAA tournament) to underachieve in the tourney.

That, I will wholeheartedly agree with.

Once I was in Costa Rica for a couple of weeks, which happened to coincide with March Madness. I am not that big of a sports fan at home, much less when I am mongering in Central America. I had no idea what was happening when I walked into a bar frequented by expats while I was wearing a Jayhawks t-shirt. Some guy I had never met before ran up and grabbed me by my shoulders and screamed "How could you lose?!?" I had no idea what he was talking about. It was surreal.

The "fact" that jayhawks is a terrorist name is only correct in one context - the pro-slavery factions in Missouruh who did not want Kansas to enter the Union as a free state. They rode into Kansas, rigged votes, and caused general mayhem and trouble. The Jayhawkers were born in response to those raids.

In the 1850s, the Kansas territory was a battleground between those wanting a state where slavery would be legal and those committed to a Free State. The factions looted, sacked, rustled cattle, and otherwise attacked each others settlements. For a time, ruffians on both sides were called Jayhawkers. But the name stuck to the free staters. Lawrence, where KU would be founded, was a Free State stronghold.

During the Civil War, the Jayhawk's ruffian image gave way to patriotic symbol. Kansas Governor Charles Robinson raised a regiment called the Independent Mounted Kansas Jayhawkers. By war's end, Jayhawks were synonymous with the people who made Kansas a Free State.

The winning side writes the history books. One man's patriot is another man's terrorist. Bin Laden is a "patriot" to some in the Middle East.

Osceola was burned, looted, men murdered and women raped. Quantrill's sacking of Lawrence was in response to that.

I'm going with the side leaning towards jayhawks and redlegs are murders and rapist, simply because I liked Clint Eastwood in Josie Wales.
