Default To Save Money, Stop Foreign Aid

Rand Paul nails it again.

"I would start by cutting Foreign Aid from countries who are burning our flag and chanting 'Death to America,' countries that don't really seem to be acting like our allies."

Makes sense to me. How about it, libs, can we get some agreement on this one?

I agree completely. We are going broke and can't save the world, we should take care of our own people and pay the TSA so I don't have to wait 2 hours in line for my next flight.

All foreign aid accounts for something like 0.4% of the budget. 90% of that is not the kind of "aid" most folks think of, but money to buy American products like arms for our allues like Israel and Saudi Arbia. If you take only countries that are arguably hostile to us, I'd bet it's not 5% of that 0.4% total. You're not even talking about nickels and dimes.

Maybe so, I don't know the numbers; but the message that would send out would be enormous.

So how much are we talking? And even if it is a relatively small amount, why spend it? Why give it to countries that hate us?

This type of thinking is partially responsible for the predicament we're in. "Don't worry about that, it's not that much." But if you add together all the stupid expenditures we shouldn't be making, it will amount to significant amount.

Many Americans don't have a problem with Israel: it's giving money to the likes of today's Egypt, Libya and Venezuela that is hard to accept.

Stop the aid AND eliminate the TSA and you would not have to cut much more from spending to meet the sequester amount. Hell cut out the DEA too. Then slash the EPA.

I don't mind foreign aid spending.

Firstly, as stated above, it's a very small part of our total budget. If we're going to focus on cutting spending, I believe it makes the most sense to start where we can make the biggest impact as opposed to focusing on these small beans. It's like trying to trying to save on the brand of pencils you buy when you're spending thousands per month on that yacht you just bought.

Second, I see it as in our self-interest to do so. People who are less hungry and better educated generally aren't as angry and prone to turn to religious extremism. A poor kid in the Pakistan who can't afford to eat and has no access to school is going to have a much greater chance of getting picked up by one of the extremist organizations. If we can spend a little bit of money to prevent that from happening, I say it's money well spent.

What you write is correct, however, why are we responsible for the rest of the world? The United Nations should see to it that kids in Pakistan aren't hungry and uneducated, assuming their infidel parents don't take care of their own immediate family.
We have enough starving and uneducated children of lazy and irresponsible parents in the USA as it is!
