You guys are right !!! Not much here for good Mexican food here !! Shut , sad to say the Salt Lake City Utah has better!!! Noting better then smelling the fresh baking flour of the hand rolled flour tortillas as you pull up!!!!! Like the place in old town San Diego , you member , the place with the ladies in the window!!!
I have found only 1 place here , Lola it is on your side of town , it is a hole in the wall, don't let the outside scare you , open up the rod iron door and go in!!!
It is I think called "Grandnes Tacos" to me they are not tacos , it is an open face burrito !!
Something about a handmade tortilla that does it!! Order it with beans , meat( pork only) and cheese , get the green hot sauce , 5 bucks cash only , lock your car.
I want to say it is off of 35w going north ,exit NE 33 rd street , go under the freeway west to E Long street , take that for 3 miles , past the Lisa fried chicken on the left , Grandnes will be on the right at the top of the hill, cash only , opened at 11 close on Monday's for sure and not sure about Sundays!!

I usually prefer corn tortillas, but you're right BigBoy, the smell of homemade flour tortillas makes me order them every time. And not just for tacos/fajitas/whatever, give me a bit of butter and/or salsa and I'll tear up a half dozen all by themselves!

lol you guys are crazy if you think Mexican food sucks here, Ive lived in mexico. Grew up in a hispanic home where abuela would be hand rolling tortillas every (and I mean every fucking) morning at sunrise. Compared to the rest of the US (and I travel all over it weekly) we have the best Mexican here in TX, yes it gets better the farther south you go but still... Try eating mexican in any other state with exception to SOCAL and you will be very disappointed.

The second problem is everyone- even Hispanic's (beaners) have their own opinion of what "good authentic" mexican food is, so what one Bloke says is great food may taste like shit to another.

The hole in the wall places are going to be the most authentic, the chains will have better drinks and apps and more variety, good news is there is no shortage of places so go try them all and report back...

To me, if they don't serve menudo on the weekends and have Guiso or Tacos al Carbon (the predecessor to Fajitas) on the menu it probably is mainly Tex Mex Cuisine, which can be good just not Authentic...

As far as street tacos go, try Pinochos (hole in the wall) on the Southeast corner of Carroll & Main St/Columbia Ave
