I haven't seen Lincoln, but given all the buzz about it last year, I'm not surprised to see it on the list.

I am surprised to see Django Unchained on there though. I didn't think it would really be Oscar worthy.

I've seen 2, 4, 8 and 9.

2 and 8 were pretty good but 4 and 9 were not IMHO.

I thought Zero Dark Thirty was going to be good, except for the last ten minutes, it sucked. Django was just one n word after another. I will say the actor that recieved an Oscar nomination for his role was good. He was in the QT German flick too.

Seen 5 and 7, hope to see 2, 6, and 9 this weekend.

I think Django is just a token show. It is not really a consideration. The Hollywood liberals are trying to boycott (and ignore) Zero Dark Thirty. I guess Bigelow was getting uppity.

I think it comes down to Les Miz (because of the cast and the source material), Lincoln (because its Spielberg and the story), or Silver Lining Playbook (safe, unexpected choice).

I've seen 2, 5, 7, and 9. Enjoyed them all. Had never heard of 1, 3 and 8. Planning to see 4 and 6.

Would bet on Lincoln winning.

Seen Argo, Lincoln and Zero Dark Thirty. All three of these movies have great merit. Of those three, IMO, Argo was the best movie in the traditional sense. Though its story line exaggerated certain details of the actual historical event, the movie proffered a great mix of drama and levity. John Goodman and Alan Arkin were hilarious. Argo did win Golden Globe awards for Best Picture and Best Director (Affleck). Hopefully it’ll win Best Picture, but Affleck wasn’t even nominated by the Academy for Best Director.

Sally Fields and Daniel Day Lewis gave great performances in Lincoln, and while both deserve Oscars, it appears that Daniel Day Lewis is the only real shoe in. Otherwise, IMO, Lincoln, was a bit too melodramatic, but it looks like it might win Best Picture.

Though I haven’t seen it, [I]Les Misérables[/] is rumored to be a strong contender in several categories this year.

Zero Dark Thirty tells a very good story which, where the story lines overlap, only marginally deviates from Mark Owens’ “No Easy Day”. Many in the Academy have announced they will not vote for Zero Dark Thirty for political reasons, so it has no chance. Jessica Chastain’s performance was adequate, but her role as Maya didn’t lend itself to a Meryl Streep performance. Chastain won a Golden Globe for best actress; it’s possible she’ll win an Oscar.

I haven’t seen Life of Pi either, but I’ve heard enough about the story line from family and friends who have read the book to know it doesn’t interest me. And Peter Jackson’s The Hobbitt: An Unexpected Journey didn’t receive the acclaim of his earlier Tolkien stories. It was surprising how many actors and actresses were able to reprise their earlier roles.

It did have several appreciative fans, but as a rule -- with a few exceptions -- musicals are not my favorites.

I liked Argo. I think they did a good of building the suspense considering I already knew the outcome of the event it's based on.

Amour is opening up in the Austin area today. Read the review and it sounds great but a real downer. When you get to be a certain age, movies about impending death, no matter how well done, can be a little unsetlleing.
