Txt weirdness
Not sure if I should post this in the alert section or not, but figured I would start here and see if anyone else heard of such weirdness before.
Here's how the story goes. Yesterday I read the ad on here for Sterling Banxx, going to be in Lafayette yada yada yada. Sent P411 message to see if she was still around etc. No reply, but noticed she hadn't logged in since the 17th. So I shot a txt to the number listed here, it was a new number she said on the post.
Shortly after I get a response. I didn't notice that the number was different however. Here is how it went:
me: sent you a message on p411 (to number ending 9502)
response: Okay, my laptop broke so I am unable to check it out but tell me about yourself. <live, laugh, love>
(this was from a number ending with 3856, I hadn't notice the difference, but I should have caught that right away)
me: I'm a great guy blah blah... what do you want to know?
response: lol I'm a great girl! What's your age and race? <live, laugh, love>
me: give age etc
response: This is for a 10 year old kid stop texting this fone
response: Cops
Ok, I am freaking out about now, this is when I notice the number was different than the one I send the first txt to. So...
me: Ok, not quite sure (what) any of that is supposed to mean but ok I'll assume I have the wrong number.
response: Yes you have the wrong number.
response: Your speaking to Sterling <live, laugh, love>
(Keep in mind all responses are from the number ending with 3856.)
me: This is not Sterlings number. Very weird. It's like two people are texting me back. And not from the number I sent to. But ok I'm done.
response: ok
response: My # is xxx.xxx.9502 the xxx.xxx.5203 number is no longer working but okay.... (this is in reference to her old phone number she had before)
response: Let me log into p411 from my phone and respond.
me: ok
and that was it. Checked p411, no response. Check to see if she opened message, and as of right now, she has not.
Understand, I'm not implying that Sterling did anything wrong. Or anyone for that matter. But somehow, I think my txt messages did not go only to where they were supposed to go, or they went to two phones, and both the replies came from the second (unknown) number. I'm thinking it was possibly a cell phone glitch on my end or hers. So... just a heads up no matter what.
Just fucking weird.

Speculation at best, but to me, it sounds like some Google Voice mix up issues. A lot of providers use GV, and sometimes, it bounces different numbers around, but typically it should always go to the correct source, maybe this time it didn't.
Either way, that's weird for sure.
Stay safe!
xoxo,
Taylor

Wow. I wasn't going to mention it, but that's what I was using. Google voice. I guess that answers my question.

So, I don't know if you use it, but when you use GV, make sure you're running Google Talk too, and you're logged in, that *seems* to help with the number scrambling, mostly. Unless GV is just having a day, which happens a lot too Second to that, just keep an eye on the number, but you know that now

This happened to me a couple years ago, but not hobby related. I sent my SO a pic of me from my personal phone and we had a HUGE fight over it because when I texted it to him, it came from a number that did not belong to me, and that wasnt even a TX number. Obviously he texted 'me' right back, and he then got a message from that other number asking what he was talking about and who he was. They couldnt see the pic, just the reply he thought he was sending to me. I WAS NOT using GV, I was on a Tmobile phone at the time. To this day we still have no idea what the hell happened.
Hope you get it figured out!

I guess the lesson learned is any phone can and sometimes does get screwed up and sends to another number etc. Good to know, but damn that sucks. I guess keeping the conversation generic will help. Thanks for the feedback.
Oh... and I remember you. I had a great time with you in Lafayette a while back. Still think highly of it.

Reminds me of when cell phone cloning was first starting out. A bt more dificult to do now but not impossible.
Interesting article on blue jacking , cloning, and software available to monitor texts / calls.

Never put any risque info into a text or email - those things are collected by the government in huge databank storehouses.
Generally - when I talk to a provider - it's just like I'm talking to a blind date. I don't discuss rates because I've already researched that online. I don't discuss activities beyond "wine tasting". I don't call it an "appointment" - but a "date".

The OP hung in a lot longer than I would have. I would have excused myself out of there and moved down the list to another provider.

Completely agree. I know everything can be traced, recorded, stored, and requested by LE etc (already saw this first hand be someone close to me). I didn't say anything that could get me in to trouble, and I don't think I ever would. But I will be even more cautious going forward.

Really didn't hang in there long at all. This was about a 5 minute ordeal. Once said I was done all I said after that was "ok". Either side would see it as over. If Sterling wanted to go forward any more, all she had to do was communicate via P411. I moved on and found someone else so it worked out just fine.
Looking back at it, seems that it was two different people. One that would likely be Sterling was the one with the sig "<live, laugh, love>". She provided her old number as part of the response, so I would tend to believe that one was really her. Doesn't matter, everything worked out... just weird, that was my only point and wanted to see if this was something experienced by others. That was confirmed, so it's also just a heads up for all.
