I done 10 service calls on Windows 8, I hate it. I got three laptops, netbook, and two desktops still with Windows XP. Main reason on laptops, that they have serial ports, and I have to configure telecom equiment.

NO WAY!!

I am a pro-user, not a consumer level user. My productivity (audio, video, graphics) software is not gonna go near W8 for the near future.

Windows XP and Windows 7 were the only versions to work decent out of the box. That was because they learned from previous mistakes. I'm thinking W8 will be a learner version like vista was. Just my 2 cents.

I would say a Trash 80 (TR 80) but that would date me. I had a kid - 20 something, try to demonstrate Win 8's superiority. Not convinced.
I'm going to stick with 7 for many of the reasons mentioned. Also I don't like the interface of 8. Of course I don't like Apple or touch screen phones. They don't seem to be serious user friendly. Like Apple and touch phones there are many included tiles I do not want. While you can nuke them , why should I have to mod and clean up a new machine? The single advantage for W8 exists only if you have a touch screen. Stardock as suggested earlier in this thread gives me the start icon and the search capabilites of 7, but again, why would I upgrade only to modify if I get no other real advantage? As for start-up time - I don't see a big difference between 7 and 8, unless one of the computers has an SSD as it's boot drive.

I keep all my older gear at XP pro, unless I put Linux on it... I will not be going to Win 8 EVER......

Stay with Win7 or XP. I have used Win8 since the release preview and like it but for most people I would have them steer clear.

I concur with SBG. I will stay with 7 until I have a reason to do otherwise.

Just got my frustration cup filled recently trying to help understand Win 8...it's on a new laptop my daughter got from Santa.

Found the Win 7 desktop patch at Classicshell.sourceforge.net/

Much better!

Good luck to y'all in 2013 - ain't gonna get any easier, that's for sure!
