Legal no, decriminalize yes. 2 different things and decriminalization should be a much easier goal than out right legalization.

Legalizing prostitution would probably help the economy a little. But the pimps would just become business owners and maybe even CEO's of the Hooker Walmart... As for prices going down hell after the ladies or establishments pay for permits, taxes, check ups, and for fake results for the sick I doubt getting some quality time would be much cheaper. Trafficking would definitely increase, can you imagine how many Amp's would be opened if prostitution was legal all over the US.

There would still be ladies providing without going through the legal loops and there would still be pimps running around doing what they do. In fact, I believe it would only cause pimps to go to greater lengths to get new talent, and most of those ways aren't all that good.

I agree with decriminalization, it would do more for the hobby then legalizing it in my opinion. I have heard that laws are starting to get passed that go after the guys who seek out escorts. Larger fines and they are forced to take a class on it, kinda like folks who have to go to illegal substance classes for court. Here they attempt to shock and awe you with pictures, video, and information. These gents are also put on display and I think some areas are forcing them to register as sex offenders with no other information. There is a huge gap in my opinion between a sexual predator and someone who wants to fuck a sexy hot lady they most likely wouldn't have a chance with outside of this hobby.

If I know our government, any revenue generated by taxes and licenses would quickly be eaten up by the bureaucracy that they would create. Let's see there would be new cabinet positions - Hooker Czar, "Bureau of Sex and Human Pleasuring", 10,000 new IRS agents and on and on...

Let's see who could head up the "Bureau of Sex and Human Pleasuring" - Barny Frank?

I would volunteer for the Hooker Czar position so that wouldn't cost the taxpayers a dime!

I am all for lower prices on anything.

Plus, how would it be taxed, by the transaction (just what percent would be reported for taxing) or by the yearly license where every woman would have to pay maybe $10 just for a license to have sex. I'll bet there would be a lot of girls who would refuse to pay for either option.

The real reason the it is not legal is because the majority of women are wives, and they want to limit the opportunity of the husbands to have occasional options.

The reason you can charge for pussy is because it is illegal.

JR
I have actually participated in this so called ~Profession~ prior to the internet, when ones choices to see a lady was mostly from a street corner ~ escort service ~ private location or hotel/ bars... You don't think the internet has promoted a huge margin of females and a total price decrease?? Lets be real. There are beautiful woman online selling themselves and risky services for a record low!! These woman are being pimped/ selling themselves for prices once rendered to drug addicts/ and street walkers...

If it was legalized it would be highly mandated. Everything from paying self employment tax ((1040 form)) to being tested for STD's on a regular basis... If they didn't want to follow it, they could go to jail. Period.

Your opinion as to why it's illegal is not worth even touching the subject...

Successful independent escorts are effective small business owners, and having more successful small business owners in this country would be a good thing. Removing the stigma would make it easier for them to transition from one type of small business to another if they retire from escorting.

I think the supply(females) would obviously increase.. but the demand (the men) would also increase. there are plenty of men who simply don't do it because they are afraid of being arrested or mugged. if it was legal, the arresting/mugging wouldn't be part of the equation anymore.. at least not as big of a part. just my 2 cents.

Do I think it should be legal.....yes. Is it going to help the economy.....doubtful. Everyone that wants to take part probably already has or is. It's not a question of demand, but a lack of funds to do so. Is it going to help with revenue via taxes......hell no! First the only way they could tax it (that is with independent provider) is like with waitress to claim their tips and that isn't going to happen. Plus if I knew my transaction in the hobby could be traced, I wouldn't be taking part. My 2 cents.

Maybe it's already been said in this thread and others - In some ways, I'm surprised it isn't already legal. Obviously, most politicians are unwilling to introduce legislation to change the legal status. On the other hand, in states like Missouri, citizens can create ballot initiatives through petitions.
Think about Texas - That state is pretty well known to be the sex-for-money capital of the USA, and yet it's illegal there. I have no doubt that if citizens voted on a ballot measure to legalize prostitution there, it would pass. But, no politician wants to have their name attached to it. People might be hesitant to sign a petition with their real name and address as well, given the high level of paranoia about legal enforcement.

But I strongly believe it would pass if someone ever did create a petition for it, even here in Missouri. You could set up a booth to collect signatures at adult stores and strip clubs, haha.

Legalize prostitution in Kansas or Missouri...hell we can't even have Strip Clubs with strippers

Massage Palors with no happy endings.....hell even some bare ass breast statue on an O.P.walking trail causes major freaking local headlines

Remember we must protect the children...some poor little boy will see that statue...he'll grow up to be some disgusting man-pig, & we can't let that
happen. Can we???

Regarding the man-pig status, a recent Jo Co poll revealed that over 64% of Jo Co wives consider their husbands
to be "man-pigs"...another 24% did strongly pick the "man-whore" selection. The remaining wives that were in the sample, simply did not understand the question.

But back to the original subject, I don't know... but do married guys want any type of written paper trail that would be required with legalization???

I'm all for it...but I could think of several other realities against this dream, here in hillbilly land, lol....and don't even get me started about my beloved green tea, lol

I don't know that it would raise revenue as much it would reduce law enforcement and court expenses. A solid argument can be made that this is a victimless crime. Prices would go down considerably. The brothels in Costa Rica are $45 per hour-GFE,bbbj, you can even get them to go on trips. Brothels in Germany had a broader selection I think it was 60 us for the hour. I didn't do GFE there. $45 hr/$105k a year, 60hr/120k. No worry of stds as they are tested or police as its legal.

In a perfect world, prostitution would be 100% legal tomorrow. But this isn't a perfect world. It is a world filled with people that view prostitution as a direct threat to society.
They think it destroys society by threatening their marriages, spreading diseases, and enslaving women. To them it makes no difference if prostitution does any of those things 99% of the time, 9% of the time, or 0%. They don't even consider the positives of prostitution: Lots of sex, lots of money...what's not to like?

The problem is HOW do you even talk to these people.

Let's look at what progress has been done to repeal the prohibition on another thing that makes people happy. Pro marijuana legalization groups realized that they are and will always be a minority. So to win a majority of votes, they needed to re-frame the issue in a way that the majority could understand. That's how the 'Tax Marijuana just like Alcohol' idea was born. Voters saw dollar signs and hoped that their OWN taxes would go down. They UNDERSTOOD how alcohol was controlled.

Groups advocating the repeal of prostitution prohibition could learn something here. Tell the majority why it is in THEY'RE personal self-interest to repeal prohibition. But IMO, it is even more important to cut a deal and take things in stages.

Here's what I'd do:
I'd start by stating that prostitution will still be illegal for BUYERS (aka MEN). Wives will be cool with this. Then I'd explain that we must make prostitution legal for SELLERS (aka WOMEN) because women that are victims of violence need to be able to report that violence to the police without losing their kids, their income, getting beat up by a pimp, or even killed. Women will sympathize. See what I did there? I just won over women, who make up HALF the population. That's WAY more than the 1%-25%(?) of people involved in the hobby.

Once the issues are split up in the court of public opinion, as they already are legally, then individual laws can be changed. It might even be worth it to increase penalties for men so that they're eliminated for women. But a better bargaining chip would to increase the penalties on pimps because...fuck 'em, they're pimps.

After prostitution prohibition has ended for women, then men get their turn. Ladies first, after all.

I'd also like to see Fornication, Sodomy, and Bawdy House laws ended. I'm looking at you, Utah.
