I had a hot tub about 20 years ago. Nice, but a huge pain in the ass, maintenance-wise. You have to check and adjust the pH daily, put "shock" into it on a regular basis, and play with various other chemicals on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis...and god help you if you actually have a party. The water in the hot tub will be destroyed by all the oils and crud on people and you have to drain it, clean it, and refill it. It was fun, but a lot of work.

It definitely is a waste of money, but there isn't much like sharing a hot tub with a hot girl while it is snowing. I miss mine and I would say the amount of work is overrated. You have to spend 10 minutes once a week and then an hour or two total every couple months to drain, clean, and refill. That process takes a long time, but you don't have to do a lot while it happens.

Not a waste of time to me. I love it. Takes a few minutes to maintain, just check adjust and go.
Ladies you're all invited to come try it out. Clothing is NOT opitional, it is not allowed period!
Nothing like soaking in the tub on a winter's night, snowing and a fire burning in the pit.
