Default Sushi

Does anyone know of a GOOD place to have some Sushi.
Preferably on the North end.. I used to go to a place close by, over by Costco on 1604, little place, "Tapenaki Grill", I think it was called. But last time the service and quality really sucked.

A really good place is Sushi Zushi. There are 3 in San Antonio but the one on the north side is at 1604 & Stone Oak. It's pretty good there but very popular so a lot of the time there can be a considerable wait. Usually no wait if you sit at the sushi bar instead of a table.

Believe it or not - they make great fresh sushi before your eyes at the HEB Plus on 281 and Evans Road. Very free with their samples also and mix-n-match to go.

I agree with Dennis,
That HEB has decent sushi and I was told that the fish is flown in by a Hawaiian company. The freshness of the fish is the most important component of good sushi. Sushi Zushi has a great reputation, especially at the 1604/281 location but you will pay for it. There is a Japanese restaurant on Hildibrand between I10 and San Pedro that will give you a great experience with good all around Japanese food but looks bad on the outside. More like a house in a bad neighborhood. Been there forever, hope it is still open. I need to go back if it is.

THE best sushi in SATX is Samuri Sushi on Babcock Rd.

IMHO beats Sushi Zushi by a mile.

Oden, golfnwine, thanks for all the info. Looks like I will be checking out these places and getting back. I agree that fresh fish is the best. Having been a Commercial fisherman for over 25 years, !8 in Alaska catching King Crab and Pollock, and having the opportunity to eat the freshest fish there is, i know the importance of "FRESH"
I work out of town and like to have some Sushi before I head out to work. Now I have some more places to check out... Thanks to all of you

There's a fairly new place just in Leon Springs. I have heard very good things about it and it just got a glowing review in the local paper, for whatever that's worth.

Staying in the same general area... sake cafe, on the corner of Blanco and Huebner has great sushi. The owner's name is (not sure how to spell it but sounds like) Yoman.

Enjoy

I too agree with Rakhir assessment of this establishment. The sushi chef is none other than Godai himself. Try the deep fried fish skin.
