I work in a clinic on a military base and we often refer our patients off-base to see specialists. When we do that, we refer to the specialist as an "off-base provider".
Thats's the excuse I'm using on Tuesday. I have an appointment with an off-base provider.

Before I retired my company had conventions and 3 day business meetings all over the country, so it was easy for me then.
Now days I get a two week pass from my wife every summer to travel out west and see the sites, and a few "bowling tournaments" in the winter months. And not to forget, overnight football games in the fall.

Easy, I like to go to pawn shops and hobby shops (RC cars, trains etc.. there is not a "shop" per say for THIS HOBBY - unless you call an AMP a hobby shop.... hmmm I might have hit on something.
Nice thing about both these excuses is with pawn shops you do a lot of looking, so you can pretty much carve out 4-5 hours on a Saturday. Hobby shops like for RC cars and such, kinda the same sorta.. but be mindful of the store hours. Also if you use the RC hobby shop as the excuse, from time to time buy a magazine from one. Its proof you were there..
Another good excuse is Borders books or some other book store like them. They are open later (9-11 pm usually) so evening appointments these work well.

Since I schedule most appointments around 5 or 6, just say I'm going to have dinner with a friend. But I don't really have anyone to make excuses to.

I work for myself, so it's easy when I'm in town to schedule something during the day. When I'm traveling, there's nobody around so it's easy too. During December, all you have to do is say you're going to mall for shopping and you're covered, as long as you did you're shopping back in November. For weekend "dates" or after work hours you have to get more creative. I usually just avoid "dates" during those times when in town, but sometimes a work "emergency" comes up and I have to run to town for a couple of hours.

Either while traveling on business, take a short day trip on day off or holiday, and at work, as long as I keep my work done, being salaried I have a good bit of freedom.

If its an evening engagement I say I'm hitting up a bar with friends or a poke(her) tourny(my fav):P. If its in the day I don't need an excuse because its assumed I'm at work.

I will hold off and let it be a surprise. As I would not want to keep to the set up time. I did bail out once. And I still owe her, if she would still see me.

When out of town, it is easy; although, I do have to be careful not to miss a call. When in town, it is probably a bit easier in that I have blocks of time free. Only problem is finding a place where nobody I know will see my car.

That's true, but the average American workman at that time made 22 cents an hour.

No need for excuses for me. I've only taken off work one tine to see a provider and I just told them I was taking that day off and they said ok. It was the best day off I've ever had lol. Being single has it's perks
