Default Dog boarding

Does anyone have experience with a good dog boarding service?

My buddy who keeps my dog when I travel is leaving town and I need to find a place to board my dog. Also, what do they charge to board a dog these days?

Price varies, but many a vet also offers boarding. Give a general area and some of us might be able to recommend one.
Also, look into the sitter services. That is, someone who'll come by your place for an hour or so and play with the dog as well as see to his/her basic needs. I've had good luck with those over the years. They used to divide the town up to avoid competition, but that may have changed.

I have a good friend who is a pet sitter with references if you want to keep your dog at home. price depends on what part of town you're in.

I've had real good luck with Petsmart, from 2 days to a week. If you have them stay, free grooming with the room, nice bonus when you pick your dog up. Give them a buzz.

Gee, I would have never thought of them, thanks.

To all: Thanks for the info. Prices you paid would be helpful, too.

I'm in the I-35/Pflugerville area. I'm probably not going to do the pet sitter bit, though.

Taurus Training. They have a location on Mcneil Dr. that I have used many times with good results. They have a doggy play day during which they will let your dog out to play with similar size dogs 4 times a day. Much better than just locking him/her up. My dog used to love it. It cost $20 a day but that was about 4 years ago.

Please employ a local business and not petsmart. Screw large pet corps. Spend your dollars locally and support local pet businesses.

Go to the boarding kennel and tour it. Talk to the employees, if you get a bad vibe walk on. Ask if you can bring toy, blanket, etc from home so the dog has home smell. Be leary of the kennels that insist on feeding your dog their dog food and not let you bring a blanket from home.
