Default Would you do it?

http://www.newsoxy.com/world/calvin-sneed-77609.html

The parents of a 17 year old runaway in San Fran apparently went to the police for help but were turned away. They were able to track their daughter's pimp and the dad shot and killed him in cold blood.

I know most would say they would have did the same thing. It's human nature to want to protect your kids. What would you really do?

I've worked with those kids.... I had a 14yo in Florida that would disappear and be on the streets of Miami until her pimp beat her one time too many and then she would get on a public bus, dial 911 and ride it until the cops showed up and presto... she was back in the foster care system and home with us.....

Until she didn't get something she wanted and the pimp was promising her that and more.

A cycle a lot of youngsters get caught up in and removing the Pimp, in the long run will probably not be effective. A new Pimp will have her soon....

Unless she learns from her parent's willingness to go that far and change as a result of the situation.

We all ask ourselves at times what we would do for the life of a loved one.

I think I would take a bullet for one of those I loved if in a situation but to take a life?

There is so much that could have been done that the story does not relay so we know nothing of what they tried before this extreme..........

I've given this a lot of thought as i weighed political views over the years. I believe there is a need for Capital Punishment.

But I don't think I could pull the trigger and take a life unless it as for the immediate protection of one I loved. Kill or be killed scenario.

I am the kind of person though that might pay someone else to deliver a beat down to someone or to take other actions to remove someone from the scene such as getting someone busted for another reason and out of the picture long enough to work on the problem with her.

Vigilante justice will be bigger in the future. Crime rates have gone down a bit, but we will see a big spike in the future. The police won't do shit. The parents of this lady are true heroes. Let's donate to their defense fund.

Shooting the bum in public gives a momentary "there, he got his!" feeling but the aftermath can be painful.

Better to take him when he least expects it and make him disappear.

Plan carefully, use care (DNA is a bitch), do it by yourself (two people can keep a secret, but only if one of them is dead) and KEEP QUIET (don't talk to police, most criminals talk until they admit what they did, if they would just shut up they would be free).

It's easy to say what I might do in any situation but in truth I really don't know what I'll do until I'm in that situation.

As someone who has been in a very similar situation (close relative who was the victim of sexual abuse), it's not as clear cut as you would like to believe. Life isn't a movie.

So the article says the girl left home when she was 16 to go to L.A. with a pimp. Then, a year later, she returned home to the Bay Area with the guy and argued with her parents when they tried to get the pimp to leave.

This article makes it seem as if the young lady was very defiant.

However, who lets their kid leave at 16? How does a kid at 16 even think to want to do something like this if the parents are disciplining her properly. I remember having a pretty tight rope on me at that age; within reason, but I could never disrespect my parents or not come home. Somebody would be out there in the day with a flashlight looking for me; and it wouldn't be a pimp. If the dad was willing to shoot the guy, why wasn't he willing to devise a scheme calling the BP ads and go retrieve his daughter. Maybe be a little proactive before he was so reactive.

He took the law into his own hands to kill someone and now will be doing time. It seems he does not have a respectful rapport with his daughter. Something wasn't right in that home.

But like homer said: you never know what you would do in a situation until you are there.

Unfortunately, the daughter will now be without parents for a while if they get sent to the pen and she is more damage now. For life. Such a waste.

I'm still waiting for Mark Quinones to post and show us what people would do if the pimp was just her white boyfriend from the suburbs suggesting she post on backpage. Say to support their habits.

The girl obviously wanted to be with this pimp.

To the guys that say they would have done the same as this father;
Wouldn't it be easier to whoop his daughters ass (or at least some form of disciplinary action) when she misbehaves (in the younger years) so he knows when she grows up he can put his foot down, and she'll listen. If one does'nt, just know she might be getting whooped by some pimp some day.
I think if this guy had control of his daughter he wouldn't be in this situation.

Her parents don't share the same last name. Are they the true biological parents who never married, or is one of them a stepparent?

Let's say the parents are in their mid to late 30's, meaning they still have half their lives ahead of them. It is wrong for them to ruin the rest of their lives over a defiant daughter who ran away and fell in with a pimp.

In my experience as a father, parents only exert a strong influence over our children until about the age of 13 or 14, mainly because they depend on us for their survival. After they figure out they don't have to depend on us for their survival, they are subject to doing things on their own that we don't always support or agree with.

We can try to influence their decision making and actions, but no longer control it.

I feel sorry for these parents, whose lives are changed forever.

And I don't predict this girl will turn her life around, enroll at UC-Berkeley, obtain a degree, and ever become a productive member of society, just because her parents killed one pimp.

Just another sad tale of human tragedy of many that happen every day, and there will be more.
