An Old One
One day at the farm pond there appeared a worm at the north bank, a rooster at the south bank, a female cat at the west bank, and a mouse at the east bank. They sit looking at each other across the pond. The cat and the rooster think there is a nice meal on the other side, but it would take too long to go around the edge of the pond. The worm and mouse think that the pond is too big and their foe's across the pond would never make such a leap.
