"The heart of the wise inclines to the right.* but the heart of the fool inclines to the left."*

****************************** ****************************** ************************* Ecclesiastes 10:2* (NIV)

To be right is to be correct; whereas, the left side is the sinister side.
Webster definition of SINISTER
1. archaic: unfavorable, unlucky
2. archaic: fraudulent
3. singularly evil or productive of evil
4. b: of ill omen by reason of being on the left
5. presaging ill fortune or trouble
6. accompanied by or leading to disaster

Like so many Bible verses, it all depends on the translation. Here are two alternative translations which change the meaning.
A wise person's heart leads the right way. The heart of a fool leads the wrong way
A wise person chooses the right road; a fool takes the wrong one.
It's no longer right and left, but right and wrong. The modern day significance attached to the terms left and right are probably just coincidence.
Some Bible mistranslations are really important. A lot of Bible scholars believe that a better translation of Thou shalt not kill is probably thou shalt not murder. That's always made more sense to me.
Dennis Prager, who is fluent in Greek and Hebrew says that the Bible verse that says Man is made in the image of God should probably be Man is made in the shadow of God. The difference between image and shadow completely changes the meaning.

Ok. So now we're debating New Testament greek, and the relative merits of Bible translations on a SHMB. I'm with Mark Twain, who said, "It's not the parts of the Bible I don't understand that bother me, it's the parts I DO understand!"

New American Standard Bible
Ecclesiastes 1:
5 Also, the sun rises and the sun sets;
And hastening to its place it rises there again.
6 Blowing toward the south,
Then turning toward the north,
The wind continues swirling along;
And on its circular courses the wind returns.
7 All the rivers flow into the sea,
Yet the sea is not full.
To the place where the rivers flow,
There they flow again.
8 All things are wearisome;
Man is not able to tell it.
The eye is not satisfied with seeing,
Nor is the ear filled with hearing.
9 That which has been is that which will be,
And that which has been done is that which will be done.
So there is nothing new under the sun.
10 Is there anything of which one might say,
“See this, it is new”?
Already it has existed for ages
Which were before us.
11 There is no remembrance of earlier things;
And also of the later things which will occur,
There will be for them no remembrance
Among those who will come later still.

I would agree with this. The Bible saying right or left is not a reference to political right or left as frequently stated by some.
