Default why are banks still being robbed?

I read stats about how much people get away with from robbing banks,

2010 banks lost $34,823,034 due to robberies
source
http://www.fbi.gov/stats-services/pu...tatistics-2010

How does this happen?
oh, robbers come in and pass a note to a teller telling them to give them money THEY HAS GUN!
http://www.bankersonline.com/article...hv12n12a3.html

http://www.dinksfinance.com/2011/05/...ill-rob-banks/

$35 million lost in a year,or about $95K A DAY

why don't banks have tellers behind bullet proof cases? its 2014, not 1866
I don't get it.
Do you'?

YEs, I know banks are FDIC insured, but it still has to cost money to get robbed, right?

I've done design work in some banks. Most branch locations are built purely for customer ease. They don't generate enough loans to justify their cost....so the branches are a nuisance expense. So they are built cheap, cheap, cheap. Bulletproof glass is expensive, and it changes the way you have to heat and cool the building, since the space is divided in two. Same doubling up goes for emergency exits and ada access. And the counter under the glass also should be bulletproof.

And all this extra expense can be foiled by changing one word in the note - substitute 'bomb' for 'gun'.

that's pretty much what I thought, it costs too much to prevent the robberies
