It depends on what you get arrested for and in what jurisdiction. As a general rule of thumb, if you are arrested for a Class C Misdemeanor (traffic tickets, public intoxication, shoplifting, etc.) you
probably won't be easily found. Anything after that is pretty easy to find if someone is looking.
If you are arrested and not convicted, contact a local criminal attorney and pay them to get your record expunged. That will erase most traces of your arrest (but not info posted online or published in the newspapers).
Of course, great care should be taken to NOT get arrested. I'm in Houston and they regularly post photos online after a prostitution sting bust. Last year a high level Halliburton employee was caught up in the sting and I believe lost his job because of it (so I hear, but not personally verified).
