Saw this article on the financial news section of Yahoo.

Village Voice is being sold - BackPage being left behind

states that BP will have new owners and will be a separate entity.

That being the case.. it stands to reason that the new owners might follow suite like craigslist did on the adult section or at least scrutinize the ads..

Well, for me, BP has been an excellent source of advertising. Some of my best and most loyal gentleman friends have come from there, fellows who had no clue what "The Hobby" was but were looking for regular companionship. I will be very sad, and possibly financially destitute, should BP go the way of craigslist. I apparently don't fit the average ECCIE fellow's desired provider profile, and seem to do better with venues more open to public perusal and a wider variety of tastes. Perhaps I do well on BP because I am so against the type of escort represented there?

With all due respect spirit13, did you even read the article?

The newspapers are being sold, the website is not being sold. The original owners are hanging on to backpage.com.

The article also states that bp is "the nation's top forum for ads for escorts,", which I understand to mean that the owners are making a freaking killing from the ad revenues to the point they don´t need to deal with all those newspapers anymore.

yes I read the article... but when they separate, the Village Voice will not assist them in any legal issues.. I am sure they have plenty of $$$ but since it will be a strictly online publication they will have to fend for themselves...

Right now I consider BP the stepping stone for ladies who are wanting to get into the biz.. they can get some clients from there for a low investment.. once serious they get their own website and then not have to advertise on BP as much...

The "village voice" never fought any legal issues. The owners of village voice were the ones fighting the legal issues, and those same owners are going to continue fighting the legal issues since they still own backpage.com.

I say this as someone who ran an agency for 4 years. A website doesn't mean squat as a means of advertising. Ads are everything. Ads are everything. Let me say it again, ads are everything.

As a businessperson I'll tell you exactly what this deal means.

The "village voice" = lots of work and decent money.

Backpage.com = little work and lots of money.

Sell off the newspapers for a very nice profit and keep your no-hassle cash cow. Simple as that. Very savvy business move. I admire those guys.


Bp ain't going nowhere. Not even close.
