Default Has this ever happened to you….

You start a dozen eggs to boil for deviled eggs for a luncheon the next day, and you walk off. You know, you walk off to put the clothes in the dryer or maybe sit down and work in the study. And maybe about forty-five minutes later or so you hear some rattling and loud popping coming from God knows where. No, no it wasn’t a dog knocking over my trash can or gang warfare breaking out; it was eggs exploding all over my kitchen. All up the brick walls my stove is set into, in the grill, in the other burners, on the floor – everywhere - even eleven feet away! Ahh, the joy of battling two dogs that are trying to get every piece of exploded egg off the floor while you are trying to clean up almost a dozen exploded eggs.

I can’t even imagine the look on my face. Here it is four hours later and it still smells like burnt, exploded egg. Gross. So, if this hasn’t happened to you, and trust me you are really missing out, what ridiculous household, self-imposed mishaps have you gotten into?

My goodness.....so I take it cooking is not your strong suit. :-). Cooking boiled eggs is tricky though, you actually need to remove them from the heat when they're ready. I'm just glad it can be fixed and you are ok.

Hahaha! I'm not laughing at you, I'm laughing with you.

No, really: I once set pasta on fire. Yes, pasta, the kind you cook in water. The burner was too large and the pot was too small, and the overhanging spaghetti combusted.

At least I learned that my smoke alarms were in good working order.

The trick to boiling eggs is making sure there is water covering the eggs and then letting the water come to a boil (pot uncovered - if unsure think bj), removing the pot it from the heat source, covering the pot (think fs) and letting the eggs finish cooking that way; hard boiled takes about 12 minutes, for soft or medium take out sooner. Finally run under cold water when done so the shell properly separates from the egg making it much easier to peel.

hth

DG ... chef extraordinaire (I can also make ice) lol

I ruined my favorite Williams Sonoma Wok when I overheated the oil and it flamed out. At least I caught my panic and remembered to use flour instead of water to douse the flames, but in the end, it completely ruined the wok, left a scorch on the stove top and stainless steel splash guard above the burners. In fact it is still there, lol. I have since replaced the wok, and now I only use grape seed oil to give massages with.

I remember my brothers babysitting me. I was hungry. They decided to microwave an egg. I do indeed know the sound of eggs exploding, and have seen what a mess it can create.

I cannot sense the passage of time, so if I'm going to leave the kitchen while something is on the stove, I'll set an alarm reminder to go off on my cell phone.

Cooking gets easier when you realize that the smoke alarm is not the timer.

I once got a paper cut opening a box of pretzels in the kitchen. As you can guess, I don't really do much there -- except maybe get ice to make martinis.

Oh eggs. . . they can be so temperamental. I loved poached eggs, but whenever I try to cook them I end up with eggy boiled water.

No! That’s the absolutely stupid part. I’m a cooking FOOL – an epicurean. My house was designed around my kitchen. I just forgot. My dogs were exuberant though. I think they were laughing at me (We really need more smily faces.)

PJ, I feel you. Getting the perfect ice, vodka and a tease of olive juice ratio is so critical. Without it the ice crystals would never from on the top of my future martini. Fortunately for my guests, I never serve boiled eggs in my martinis.
