The Intolerant Left
This is a new thread that I hope continues for some time. There is an atmosphere of oppression in the country today. This oppression is coming from the left. This is nothing new. Jane Fonda fired Burt Lancaster from the movie "Old Gringo" because of his politics and replaced him with liberal (though a great actor) Gregory Peck. When Allison Janney of "The West Wing" was asked about any conservatives on the set of the show her response was that Aaron Sorkin "would never allow something like that.". Members of the left will try to accuse the right of the same thing but will be hard pressed to find a real example. John Wayne was a champion of the right and he made it a point to not fraternize with liberals but he never slighted them in movie parts. John Agar was a friend of John Wayne and husband of Shirly Temple. When Wayne found out that he was against the war in Vietnam he was no longer invited to parties but still appeared in Wayne movies.
Maria Chonchita Alonso is a Cuban born, Venezuelan raised actress. She has appeared with Arnold Schwarzeneggar, Nicolas Cage, and Robin Willians. She praised Woody Allen two decades ago but she has apparently "evolved" when Chavez took power in Venezuela. She condemned Sean Penn and Oliver Stone for their naivete' and blindness to socialism. Now she comes out and lends support to a Tea Party candidate for the governorship of California. She does not agree with him on everything as can be seen in the commerical but because HE supports control of the border she has lost a job. Even more so, note the langauge being used to dump her.
“Of course she has the right to say whatever she wants. But we’re in the middle of the Mission (the Mission district of San Fransisco). Doing what she is doing is against what we believe,” Eliana Lopez (producer of this Vagina Monologues)
So Maria has a right to speak her mind just not in this part of town...if it is the wrong thing that she is saying.

I didn't realize Gregory Peck was a liberal. He did a fine job in "MacArthur", making me think he was a pro war conservative.

Making any issue left vs. right is just a way to ignore the issue. It is a way to get smart people from using their brain effectively. It's tedious and boring. How long until the inbred insults start getting hurled?

Different kind of liberals in those days (and we're only talking about the 70s and 80s)
Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas were great friends but Douglas was a liberal and Lancaster a conservative.
Jimmy Steward and Henry Fonda were the best of friends but Stewart was a conservative and Fonda was very liberal.
But like I said, liberals were more like classic liberals in those days.

Nice moment in the new show True Detective on HBO last night where Woody Harrelson, as Marty, listening to a rant by his father-in-law about young people, says:
"Throughout history I bet every old man probably said the same thing. And old men die, and the World keeps spinning."
Can't go back brotha. Consider abandoning this party bullshit and doing some real thought of your own. Or set the politics aside and watch a decent show. True Detective is pretty good.

I liked that scene too - I'm on Woody's side of things.

I think you just threw the 1st insult...............
JD NEVER mentioned party affiliation....but make no mistake, the political divide in America is between left and right....those who want less federal government and those who want more !

Maybe, but not at any one person. At what I consider flawed reasoning endorsed by the powers that be to keep smart people debating to no effect.
Right/left is a flawed way of debating that destroys many public debates and many a thread. Even if it is a legitimate political divide its bastardized into hogwash when someone says, for example "The Republicans really only want white voters. The Democrats want anyone but whites to vote." It's never so simple but by discussing right vs. left, including all the labels that describe extent, you lose sight of the matter at hand, in this case, how do you ensure a fair election.
It's not just less vs. more either. I'd go for more if it was any good. It's kinda shitty so I want less.

The right is not intolerant. They just want to be the only ones left standing after the LovinKayla Solution. You know when she goes around shooting anyone that even looks liberal.
