How about a Self-Ban button?
But also include an Oops button (to minimize accidental self-banishment) that works within the first 5 minutes of self-banishment.

Also, the Self-Ban button should throw a cookie (or whatever) on the person's PC to keep them self-banned if they want to come back as someone else. Yeah, I know, there's probably a work around for this approach, but if it even helps with 1/2 of the self-banners, that's something.

I'd totally vote for the self-ban button. But only if they had to set their own over/under as part of the process. And then under their handle name, instead of BANNED, it had the over/under number they had chosen.
