The consumer research group Strategic Vision conducted the survey to provide automakers with helpful marketing data (“If I were selling a convertible, I’d consider buying some air-time on Fox News,” said president Alexander Edwards). From the consumer side, the survey provides a clue into which carefully crafted images we’re buying into -- and who we are. A VP from Strategic Vision told The New York Times that the popularity of convertibles among Republicans indicates a mindset emphasizing freedom and reward. All the top choices by Democrats matched a separate survey on total auto value, indicating an emphasis on practicality

Maybe Republicans have bigger families (no abortions) and need an SUV or mini-van to carry their family around.
This little thingie seems to be all about appearance and implied fuel consumption. How about safety? Who buys the safer vehicles?

Since the GOP makes up 30% of the electorate and the democrats make up slightly less, what about the 40+% that belong to neither party? What about those who don't even vote?

Kind of get my drift here. This is a political article and not well connected to reality. Or is there more to this WTF?

I think it is a generational thing. Many of us who grew up in the '50's and '60's are old hot rodders at heart.

I love the new crop of high horsepower, high tech cars. Back in the day, we had cars that were low tech, with big gas guzzling engines that spewed as much gas out the tail pipe than they burned. I had a 66 chevelle that had a 375 hp 396, and I thought it was a rocket.

It was a slug. All of that old junk might be good for nostalgia reasons, but what I drive now has a 565 hp Super Charged Engine, a 6 speed manual, will turn a 11.90 at 118 in the 1/4, right off the showroom floor, and probaly hit 200mph top speed, has brakes that would stop an 18 wheeler, handles like an indy car, and it gets 23 mpg on the Hyway, and has every luxury a man could want. And to top it all off, ITS A STATION WAGON.

Any guesses?

It's a CTS-V wagon, Thunder Gray with the Titanium Leather interior and African Wood trim. Ricaro Buckets, the entire package. I ordered it in February, got it 2 weeks ago.

This thing makes you wonder just what in the heck Cadillac had in mind when they built this thing. Maybe they said, "screw it, let's do something REALLY outrageous".

You will have to take my word, Cadillac ain't kidding around. I have gone fast my entire life, and this thing scares me.

LOL my dad says every year he celebrates earth day by changing his truck oil in a creek bed. If it's a particularly nice creek bed, he'll drain the radiator too. (that's really only funny if you knew how freaking careful he is to dispose of his oil right.)


And as far as the topic goes... I'm not really sure what this says about republicans except they have the money to blow on a ridiculous gas hungry monster. It's a free country you know.

I wanted the electric/gas car till I found out it only goes 27 miles on a 12 hour charge. I'd still be burning 120 miles a day in gas. AND it speeds up like a tinker toy....

I agree that those big ol cars burn 30 times the gas of the cars the democrats choose, but this is still a free country right? You know that global warning has been proven bullshit right? Who cares if someone chooses to spend more money on gas. It's their dumbass choice to spend THEIR money on Gas.

I think it's not surprising that the R's drive the more expensive cars.
I have never understood why anyone with lower or no income would be a republican.
It is amazing that you find so many republicans in the southern states like Alabama, Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee, Louisiana.
Why would exactly those people with low income's support a party that wants tax cuts for the rich and wealthy?
Or is that related to (it must be) to the fact that those states also have low levels of education?

What cracks me up about the all electric cars like the Nissan Leaf is that when you plug it in to recharge you're probably using electricity generated by burning fossil fuels. Any time you burn fossil fuels you're producing carbon dioxide which is what the Demonrats are trying to get rid of by getting us to drive golf carts.
