Doesn't seem to bode well for ECCIE, Backpage, TER, or any other site with escort ads.

Seems like the powers that be would be happy that prostitution is on the Net privately rather than walking the streets publicly. Why is America, land of the free, home of the brave, so afraid of sexuality, the adult entertainment trade, and P4P? The government should just legalize the oldest, most prevalent worldwide profession, clean it up, tax it, and require licensing fees. Forget the paperwork revenue; just diverting the money LE spends now enforcing laws to "protect our morals" could be so much more helpful, say, with the war on drugs and gang violence.

I don't get it and never will.

If I interpret what was going on correctly, escorts.com was actually facillitating the movement of money from the hand of johns to the hands of providers (or their pimps.) A bit different than a review board like this.

Am I wrong? I never used escorts.com and I don't know that I was ever on that website.

Escorts had a side business as well. I think they were into cam sex/phone sex of some sort. Also, it appears they were taken down due to the receipt of profit from their enterprise. I can completely understand that if the profit was substantial in nature-- given the fine and forfeitures, it clearly seems like it was worth the governments effort.

Look, what we do in this hobby is technically illegal just like most of us technically break one law or another everyday? Does anyone here really observe the speed limit at all times? If you speed in area that will get your attention, your risk of getting pulled over goes up greatly. If you speed on the highway with everyone else and don't draw attention to yourself, you are still in violation of the law but most likely are not going to get pulled over. Escorts did something that got them noticed. Given the sheer number of provider websites, review sites and other facilitators of the hobby, most probably are just noise out there on the net. The best advise for all to include site owners is to remember that this is a hobby. Treat it as such.

If you want a service that provides reviews, great. I would just be hesitant about linking a review site with a site that takes money for membership and/or ads. I'd try to limit the monetary aspect of the site and instead rely on participation to build quality. Granted, this would mean out of pocket expenses for those that desire to run such a site, but after all isn't a hobby something that someone pays out of pocket expenses in order to get enjoyment?

and that is one reason this is a "safer" site- because it does not charge for the ads...that was escorts problem ( one of them) they accepted or charged knowing...pandering.. thank you for this...

What about the blinking banners and ads and tabs at the top and sides of every forum page on ECCIE? I'm sure those are paid for, and I see little difference between that and taking money from individual escorts for pandering, er, advertising. Cpalmson makes a very good point, but running this complex a site wouldn't be realistic or feasible on just the "donations" of fellow, and female, enthusiasts.

sad that they went down. I heard it was a great resource. Other sites have tried to fill the void to no avail. Better safe than sorry!

In the below, I believe you are trying to make the point that ECCIE should not be worried, as they do not participate in certain things Escorts.com did. Let's examine that:

So, your point is that they had a side business, one which is totally legal, which somehow makes them illegal. How does having a legal aspect to your business make you more of a target, than a site that does not have that totally legal aspect to their business?

So, are you trying to say the owners here don't turn a profit? I don't think they are doing this out of the pure goodness of heart. The ads that run here, should be generating well more than the cost to run the site. I think that's called a profit. This site has one of the largest user bases of any such sites in the US. I would think it would be high on the list of any such targets by the government.

So ECCIE and many others have always talked tongue in cheek about how the reviews are fiction. Unfortunately I have relied upon the reviews here on occassion, and found out what fiction they truly are. Some guys here see what they want to see, once they spend their money, and it doesn't necessarily have much to do with reality.

So how is it that ECCIE has a lower profile, is it the the fact that their user base is one of the largest?

You do realize that ECCIE does accept money for banner ads by the ladies? You realize that people can and do pay for access here? You realize that they are making money on this site?

So how again do you think that ECCIE will be immune?

I think the real answer, is that the review sites will move offshore, to locations that don't have laws to limit such business. I would think the owners of this site would be looking at how to do this really soon. This ruling is a clear indicator to me, that if they don't... They're "Running with Knives", and just hoping they don't get tripped.

There was no "ruling". They plead guilty to an arranged deal and got sentenced.

The owner of Escorts.com also owns porn sites and telephone sex lines. The porn sites and sex lines are profitable and totally legit money. The Escorts.com stuff falls into a rather gray area of internet law.

I can totally understand where a plea deal with probation and a relatively small fine would be a lot more appealing that fighting it out in federal court.

First - I seriously have to meet you - Fancyinheels! OMG!!!

Second - Agree with your perspective, I just have to wonder how big the hammer is hanging over the head of people who wrote reviews on escorts.com. I had dozens and dozens of reviews there. (Here's a dumb idea - let's start a new thread where we get to post all of our old escorts.com reviews - NOT!!!)

Hypothetically if a website or print publication collects monies from a hobbyist for a subscription service or collects monies from a provider to advertise her services, the owners could be charged with promotion of prost, racketeering, and/or money laundering. None of us are immune. Regardless of the site we use, always keep your safeguards in place.
