Default Will Assad go out like Sadaam?

Obama warns Assad against using chemical weapons: "There will be consequences"

Quote:
President Barack Obama gave Syrian President Bashar Assad a stern warning Monday after U.S. officials told CBS News the Syrian regime has shown signs that it may be making chemical weapons material
Both officials spoke on the condition of anonymity, although President Obama spoke publicly about the possibility of chemical weapons in a speech at National Defense University Monday.
President Obama said he wanted to be "absolutely clear" to Assad that "the world is watching," CBS News White House correspondent Mark Knoller reports.
The use of chemical weapons is "totally unacceptable" and "if you make mistake of using -- there will be consequences and you will be held accountable," the president said.
An official told CBS News national security correspondent David Martin earlier Monday that there are indications Assad's regime has issued orders to combine the necessary ingredients to make the material, which are usually stored separately.
"There is concern Syria is making chemical weapons material ready for use," a senior U.S. official separately told Martin.
The two officials spoke after reports surfaced that U.S. and allied intelligence have detected Syrian movement of chemical weapons components in recent days.
A senior U.S. defense official told The Associated Press Monday that intelligence officials have detected activity around more than one of Syria's chemical weapons sites in the last week. The defense official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly about intelligence matters.
In Washington, White House spokesman Jay Carney warned that Syrian use of chemical weapons would cross a "red line" for the United States, CBS Radio News correspondent Peter Maer reports. U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton reiterated the same warning earlier in Prague.
Carney voiced increased concern at the White House about Syria's chemical weapons stockpiles and that Assad's "increasingly beleaguered regime" might be considering using those weapons against Syrians.
"We believe that with the regime's grip on power loosening, with its failure to put down the opposition through conventional means, we have an increased concern about the possibility of the regime taking the desperate act of using its chemical weapons," Carney said.
Syria said it would never use chemical weapons against its own people. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Damascus said Monday that Syria "would not use chemical weapons -- if there are any -- against its own people under any circumstances."

Syria has been careful never to confirm that it has any chemical weapons.
Also Monday, the United Nations ordered its non-essential international staff to leave Syria because of an increase in security threats around its capital of Damascus. As many as 25 of its 100 workers could be pulled from the country this week, according to a U.N. statement.

Yes. He will go like Saddam.

At this point, he has nothing to lose.

He will lose that if he gets deposed.

So he will use every weapon at his disposal to postpone the inevitable. No matter how many have to die.

Is Assad does get hanged, I hope the guy working the camera can take better quality videos that the asshole that filmed Saddam meeting his maker.

What consequences has Assad faced so far? Obama has done nothing and as a result the world hasn't either.

Because as we all know, what the rest of the world does is Obama's fault.

What should Obama do?

Nothing. Including funding and arming the rebels. Which we are doing. It should stop.

Exclamation Walk Softly

President Obama should do just what he's been doing.

. . . Walk softly and carry a big stick!

Will Assad go out like Sadaam?

Will his country be invaded by a coalition of armed forces and will he be pulled out of a spider hole by his whiskers by a US soldier and then given a fair trail by his peers and found guilty for crimes against humanity and then hung?

Nope.

God those were the good old days.

I suspect that Assad will use many of those weapons that were taken out of Iraq just before the US invaded in tye second Gulf War.

Assad is as evil and as much of a murder as Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, or any other of the renown despots of the past. The sooner he eats a bullet, the better.

What would really be neat is if we could get a bead on him with a drone, and blow his sorry as straight to hell where he belongs.

The White House is for now apparently stopping short of giving the rebels lethal weapons, even as some U.S. allies do just that.
I'm curious, does anyone here advocate taking out Assad if it can be done?
