Empty nesters to do list
I became an empty nester ( donated 4 young men to this crazy world)2 days before Thanksgiving of 2021. To say the least between the eerie silence and a bit of desperation ( I'm SUPER PROUD don't get me wrong) which has had me rather bed ridden. I've decided it's time to get up.
For those who join me in this phase.. what is your " To do list" per se.
With your extra time?
Single empty nester might I add.

Same.
My house is filled with tasks to do and books to read, all targeted for a time such as this. Once the kids are gone, I'll have time...
The kids are gone. I have time. Only now I have no interest. Instead, my interests are changing. I want to learn new things and develop new skils. Maybe even embark on a whole new career. I've grown weary of working with people with no vision, no joy.
I want to travel. I want to learn to be a diesel mechanic. I want to learn to be a plumber. I want to drop in unexpectedly to my kids house and make a nuisance of myself...and laugh all the way home. I want to spend their inheritance without feeling like I owe them an apology or me a guilt trip.
What a great post.

I am an empty nester too. I like it that I can do what I want when I want. And play with who I want.

I trust you'll not be offended if I politely decline future dinner invitations?

Ms. Moon,
Although we have never met I wanted to comment on this thread because it hit home for me!
congratulations on accomplishing something that probably 25% to 45% of most parents do not achieve. BE Proud and stall tall you faced the challenges of motherhood, by nurturing, loving, providing for your boys materially, emotionally, lovingly and with morals.
I understand being sad about the last one graduating to adult hood. Changes in my life have caused some of the same issues you have described in this thread by you. Feeling alone, not clear on a path, can be overwhelming sometimes can lead to inaction and not giving yourself permission to start new!
You gained from your description 4 fine boys. They are still in your life so cherish your accomplishments. It's time for you now! You can do anything you set your mind to. You have accomplished the hard stuff already!
I too am a single empty nester. What makes it sad for me at times is someone from afar has my heart. I've never have been given the chance to explore its potential. I think she is quite aware that she has my support and respect. But after numerous years it's probably never come to pass! That's sad on my part.
From following you on here you are a good person, mother, friends to many on here. You are smart, brave, beautiful and successful.
You are a Lioness! ROAR nothing can stop you but you.
Wishing you the confidence to move forward to the next best chapter in your life.
Ms. Moon don't wait to move forward these chapters in life go so quickly.
Wishing happiness, self confidence, love, courage to grasp what lies ahead without regrets.

Thank you so much gentleman 123.
I feel confident in their paths..more so than mine.
So many things come to mind yet it seems so sudden like
What the heck do I do NOW???
Played on social media for a bit.
Done with it...
Picked up a few project pieces & one project person..don't ask. That didn't last very long.
Writing..& like was mentioned reading the books I have acquired have been among the millions of jumbled thoughts.
And returning back to college. Once again.
I recall my first semester @WSU. I was pregnant. Just turned 17& graduated in Dec.
In my computer lecture there was a lady with gray hair in a bun. Always sat in front of me ..as a snot nosed teen I thought to myself " what is she doing here?"
Well by they end of the semester I noticed the age diversity throughout my campus & classes and made a conclusion.
You can always go back.
No matter what age you are.
Add more. Complete. Be a lifelong student. Change a career. Climb up the ladder.
I needed that.

I would be willing to donate my time to come over and more thoroughly inspect your nest as well as work on filling some of the emptiness.
For duty and humanity, of course.

Well with spring coming, if you can garden, it is time to start some plants inside. With the nice weather, you can prepare the flower beds.
In warmer weather I love to take day trips. Just an hour or so outside of town. Pick a direction and see what is out that way. Eat at a local restaurant or get a drink at a local bar. I found a few spots I like and return when I can.
When the weather is bad, try baking something your boys like. I am sure they won't turn it down. It will bring them by to see you.
Volunteer somewhere. I have donated time and money to a couple of non-profits that I think are important.
I don't know if you are all in the same city but a once a month dinner or special occasion dinner. My mom always had everyone over like that for birthdays or holidays. It kept everyone close.
So find things to keep you busy. Then you will wonder how you ever had time for work.
