How have gun laws changed in your state?

In Missouri before background checks you could buy a long gun from any dealer.
If you wanted a handgun you had to fill out a form take it to the sheriff and be cleared, then take the form back to the dealer for the purchase.
If you wanted to take the gun out to fire it a valid hunting license had to be obtained.
The firearm and ammo could not be in the same compartment stored in the vehicle. One or the other had to be in the back.



Now you can buy about what you want peer to peer or at gun shows from an individual no background check.
A cc license is not required to carry now, and the age to carry is being dropped from 21 to 18.
Easy to see gun laws are not being tightened, how have they changed in your state?

here they do the background check when you buy the firearm from a dealer its about 16 yes or no questions, I assume this is the Federal its done on line, a CC permit you have take a 8 hr course given by a registered state instructor then once you have completed it you go to county sheriff for mug shots finger prints then send the paper work to the state capitol with your payment and about 4 to 6 weeks you have CC permit which you take to the drivers licence office and they give you your permit which looks just like your drivers licence

Louisiana is an open carry state. no permit needed except for the required federal background check.

it also has cc which requires a permit.

I wouldn't walk around in NOLA or Baton Rouge Open Carry.

Two good changes a year ago: Open carry, with a concealed carry permit, and knives were updated to include switch blades and double edged blades. Same time they did open carry, they also modified accidental exposure of your concealed weapon to no crime for that. On the open carry, the police pushed for and got the right to check for your concealed carry permit on demand. Ironically, their lawyers subsequently advised them to avoid that practice, fearing that they could be charged with profiling too easily.

NOLA comes to mind. I had occasion where the doorman happened to see my pistol under the dash when I was getting out of the vehicle. Thought he was going to chite a brick.

Walking anywhere open carry, in my opinion is not the greatest idea.

There isn't any reason that I can think of why anyone needs to know you're carrying.

New Orleans and Baton Rouge are the largest cities in Louisiana both have their share of Liberals and they make a big deal about everything. I am not one to draw attention to myself in public so conceal carry suits me the best.

State preemption of local restrictions. Basically, keeps cities, counties and what not from passing more restrictive gun laws than the State. So Socialist enclaves like Austin can't over-ride State laws.

Visible security deterrence, imo is the only aspect of open carry that i see as a reason.

founding fathers favored 5 different gun laws

1. registration
2. public carry
3. stand your ground
4. safe storage
5. loyalty oath

these were common sense laws of that day.

please note that registration meant some thing different and was not meant as a device to seize guns. it was used as a muster if you owned a firearm.

loyalty oath, that one was interesting. never knew there was one as a requirement if owned a firearm.

In Austin?

Would you expect that when they "run" your DL or name and DOB that the Department of Public Safety would have included the CHL notation in your data base for the officer to see on his MDT or the dispatcher to see on his or her DT? Or do you think the DPS keeps that a "secret" from LE?

Pull out your CHL and see if your DL # is on there.

Learn to read. You can learn comprehension and critical thought much later. Here, try this simple thought - Why would they run my DL? They have 'stop and frisk' in the Socialist enclave of Austin now?

I remember, back in the day - when we walked to/from school, uphill, both ways, in the snow - that randomly stopping people and shaking them down was actually against the 4th amendment. The difference between you and I is that I miss those days.

Don't know where this guy is from but he just described the procedure in Oklahoma.
