I'll go first. One of my favorite inexpensive meals is:
Olive Garden
Italian
bottomless bowl of soup includes breadsticks
4 choices for soup (and you can switch around)
www.olivegarden.com
$4.65 (can do it at dinner also)

My ATF -
The Melting Pot
Fondue
Big Night Out (modified) for two (or more if there is a group)
Locations nationwide, I obviously frequent the Plaza location in KC (if you go ask for Jeremy or Adam as a server, they are hobby friendly and understand discretion - there are also several "private" tables for two segregated with curtains . . . and yes, they've seen it all, just make certain your server knows what you're going to do with the chocolate, and is comfortable with allowing you privacy . . . and ask them to knock first before entering . . it isn't my "thing" but some people enjoy it!)
450 Ward Parkway
Kansas City, MO 64112
(816) 931-6358 (in my speed dial, and yes, I can get a table when others cannot)
Without drinks, two can dine comfortably for a bit more than $100 - usually around $125, (I usually end up spending around $200 or more with substitutions and if someone at the table is drinking alcohol, it adds up quickly)
Make sure to join Club Fondue if you go, they'll send you specials for your birthday, etc.
Fun, relaxing and LONG meal, plan on 2- 2.5 hours.
Kisses,
- Jackie

While living in Dallas I frequented the Melting Pot in Addison. It is expensive but it is a lot of fun. I didn't realize we had one here!!!
I like the Olive Garden as well!!
I haven't eaten out at many "nice" places since moving back to KC but I do remember the Plaza 3 was one of my favorites as was the Hereford House. Unfortunately the Hereford house is no longer!
If I have to pick one that I have been to since moving back I would probably go with the Rib Crib out near Independence Center! Great RIBS!!!

Jose Peppers in Olathe
Mexican (could eat Mexican 7 days a week)
They make a special Enchiladas for me with Jalapeno Cream Cheese inside and out along with the red salsa and regular cheese. Wash that down with a few Margarita's and it is a tasty treat.
They have several locations in the KC area and I think one in Wichita. The one I usually go is in Olatha and almost always get the same waiter.

The Melting Pot entrance is next to the Kona Grill. The restaurant actually occupies the space below (basement, no windows) the Kona. IMHO, Plaza III isn't what it used to be . . . the Hereford House has four other locations (other than the recently demolished Midtown location) and they own Pierpont's and the Prime Rib Grill. All equally good, again, IMHO (although nothing will match the atmosphere of the Midtown location). The Capital Grille is decent for steak, some people rave about the place. Personally, I feel there are better places in KC for a good steak and Capital doesn't serve local corn-fed beef . . .
I too am a sucker for the Olive Garden (the "Taco Bell of Italian food" according to most of my Italian friends - oh well, it is good), I love the Zuppa Toscana soup . . . I need to find a recipe and make it at home. But, then I would have to cook. Never-mind.
Kisses,
- Jackie

Years ago I used to go to the Peppercorn Duck. It was in a nice hotel in the Plaza area. Is that still there? It was great last time I was there many years ago.

This discussion would be better suited for the Sandbox (off-topic) forum. :0)

Didn't think of that. Probably because I wasn't planning to pick a political fight.
Maybe a mod would move it there for us...

-Fogo De Chao- new in the plaza- first fell in love with it while in Dallas. Gaucho style meat, great salad bar (good marketing so you don't eat the beef, chicken and lamb)
- JGilberts for prime steak- at around 75th and Metcalf. Better the Plaza 3 and Capital in my opinion
- Jaspers for Italian- at 95th between Wornall and State Line. Lydia's maybe second, down by the old railroad station.

It is fine here or in Sandlot. Do you really want it moved or was the request just because of the helpful suggestions.

Bravo in Town Center for Italian food.
J Gilberts (8901 Metcalf) for the ribeye steak.
The Bristol in Town Center and McCormick and Schmick's (sp) on the Plaza for seafood.
