Rightys staggering ignorance when it comes to women's bodies and health in the name of anti-abortion.
http://thinkprogress.org/health/2012...a-womans-life/
Quote:
On Thursday, after his debate against Demcorat Tammy Duckworth, Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL) told reporters that an abortion exception is never necessary to save a woman’s life, explaining, “with modern technology and science, you can’t find one instance” of a woman dying from childbirth. Walsh claimed pro-choice advocates simply used the prospect of maternal death “to make us look unreasonable.” Walsh went on to assert that women whose health would be jeopardized if they carry their fetus to term are simply using the exception as a “tool” to get an abortion for “any reason.”With modern technology and science, you can’t find one instance…There’s no such exception as life of the mother. And as far as health of the mother, same thing, with advances in science and technology, health of the mother has become a tool for abortions anytime under any reason.
Watch it:
In fact, pregnancy-related deaths have increased in the US, climbing to a rate of 15.1 deaths for every 100,00 live births. Walsh’s own colleague, Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA), spoke on the House floor in 2011 about getting an abortion because her life was in jeopardy.
By pretending these women don’t exist, Walsh joins the ranks of his other colleague, Rep. Todd Akin (R-MO), who ignited a firestorm over his opposition to a rape exception because “if it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”

Non-issue. Nothing is going to change abortion laws. The left is just trying to frighten women. And not even all women, a healthy percentage of women are pro-life.
The SCOTUS isn't going to change the law, and any law passed by Congress would have to get 60 votes in the Senate to pass. It's a non-issue, and just takes time away from discussing real issues.

Then why are Romney and Ryan spending so much time railing against it?
Non issue? Maybe not to you. Of course, that would require interest in the opposite sex, whatever that is in your case!

Not so fast. Romney if elected would be appointing new Judges to SCOTUS. If he got a right wing court, all someone has to do is kick an abortion case up the latter.. Don't think it can't happen.

Those nominees will have to pass through a Democrat Senate. They will also have to overturn a 40 year precedent. It's not going to happen.
And I haven't heard them talk about this issue much at all. If they are wasting time on it, they are the idiots I think them to be.

Some limits on abortion such as the ban on partial birth abortion could occur but they will have to be the extreme cases that even women agree with. Other than that the republicans don't really want the law to change. The problems that would cause are worse than the current status.

You really think a guy like Ryan doesn't' really want to change it? And Romney has shown he will go which ever way the wind blows, esp under pressure from the right.

Do some individuals in the republican party want it to change - sure. Just like some individuals in the democratic party would allow a woman in her 9th month to have an abortion for no reason other than she wants to.
Would either party as a whole allow those changes - NO.
