Depends on your interest, there's a free jazz concert this weekend at Travis Park, some well known groups will be playing, both Sat & Sun starts at noon I believe.

If you enjoy driving fast there's an indoor race track out on 410,between Ingram and Bandera. You can get discount tickets @ Costco, and although it won't cover the three races,it might be worth trying out.

Know you have the eight doggies now,but take the Rott to a dog park, get some fresh air for both of you.

Of course there's the old standby movies.

Hope you have a good time, whatever you decide to do.

Add to that... Durdy Nellies for good clean fun of drinking beer, eating peanuts and singing drinking songs.

If you like walking and history, I suggest the five San Antonio missions. I am not Catholic but still enjoy viewing the ruins and going inside the churches.

Even better when bicycling to each one.

The river walk south is really nice, they have done a great job on it, and there is a portion open for canoeing or kayaking.

There is the Basilica of the Little Flower that I find very interesting even though I am unable to understand the relationship of the church, the Little Flower, and Pancho Villa.

Being a native Texan I can spend a couple of hours at the Alamo (had a relative that over stayed his welcome in April 1836) followed by a beer at the Hall of Horns. Although I RARELY go downtown unless friends or relatives are visiting.

Then there is a motorcycle ride down to La Bahia and further to Goliad to round out the Mission Trails excursion.

SA and the local areas are great thiz time of year for walking around and taking in the history.

TGBailey, you may also be interested in Lost Maples State Park and Enchanted Rock state park for moderate to easy hiking pleasure.

This is the time of year when Lost Maples begins its Autumn foliage.

I always enjoy the Alamo (agree with doglegg), even though I have been there many times. I agree about the Missions. There are great places to visit within an hour of SA. I love the river (grew up in Kerrville and Hunt where the Guadalupe starts). Love to travel the country roads. Also Fredricksburg is a great place to visit with the micro breweys and just east towards Johnson City is Luckenback. Then there is New Braunfels a lot to see, Gruene hall. Lots of neat places to eat and kick back for great convo. I get to travel the roads of Texas daily, like going different ways to see more.

Just an idea on places outside of SA. Lots of heritage in this state. Been here all my life and don't plan on leaving - ever.

Matt - I have traveled the central Texas area all my life (59 years to be exact). I had never been to Gruene, went couple weeks ago. Of course had to go in the dance hall. Had a great lunch at the restaurant next to dance hall. Of course the company of the great girl helped it be great.

Ditto on that... Recently went to Gruene and left doing a Texas two step of kicking myself for not having gone years earlier.

Critical Mass is tonight. The once a month bike ride departs from the Alamo at 9:30. Lots of fun and a great way to see the city from a different perspective. Mostly 20 somethings but a few old goats can run with the youngsters. Also this Sunday is Si'clovi'a, for info go to the YMCA website. About 80k showed up for the last one.

Pack up the pets and head out to the Hill Country. Really pretty out there, nice and quiet.
Some of the little towns like Guerne are nice to see.
