Default No more vehicle inspection in Texas

As of 1-1-2025 you will not have to get safety inspection on your vehicle. Will still have to get emissions testing. But will still have to pay fee along with registration fee like normal.

Nope. Just what I saw in TikTok and what I read when I googled it.

That is the update. No safety inspections in tx. Still have to pay the same and have to get emissions test in Harris and surrounding counties. So basically no money or time is saved on the new law in counties where emissions test are still required.

Sweet!
My clunkers are all over 25 yrs old so now I don't even have to get the safety inspection done ?
That's an extra $7/vehicle I can move over into to my hobby fund every year.

Very bad idea. For some, this is the only time each year the owner has anybody look over the vehicle. Huge mistake.

It's misleading news. I did some research and found this out.

Here's why.
Chances are you live in a county that does emissions, if you paid $25.50 then you do live in a county that does. So you'll still have to go yearly for an emissions test. The emissions test is "currently" $18.50 with plans to increase this fee. Instead of paying the $7 safety fee, you'll be paying $7.50 more for your registration. This fee is ironically called "safety replacement fee". It was all done for political brownie points, but half assed as politicians knew they couldn't really get rid of the test. So in a sense, you're going to ultimately pay more and get less.

Unreal that there will be no more safety testing done, but the government plans to keep charging a fee for it and call it something like "replacement safety vehicle fee". That makes it seem like it was all a money grab by the government in the first place.

Fees, fees, fees......for nothing.

What's the difference? The emissions is the hard part anyway.

True, but now you're paying MORE and getting less. The lawmakers tricked everyone by saying it's saving people money, time, redtape. This year we started seeing extra $200 fees for EV registration as well.

Costs/money grab/emissions aside, as if the state of Texas needs anymore crapped out vehicles on the roads. I’m talking common shit you already see every day like worn tires/suspension/brakes, non-working headlights/tail lights, etc. It’s gonna get worse tenfold.

So nobody checking for those burned out tail lights for you? More revenue for the policy enforcers when they pull you over, and now have a legitimate reason to look closer. Did they smell pot smoke when you rolled down your window? How about your behavior during the stop? Can they find a justification to ask you to do roadside gymnastics? License, insurance, registration up to date? You got warrants? Any excuse to get you into the system.................

But show me exactly which traffic policies are currently being enforced? Traffic laws have now become a complete fucking joke.

They should do with emissions and keep the safety inspections, it doesn't make sense that the safety part in done and emissions is still being checked
