Often times they are just testing the waters to see how generous(stupid) you are with your money. I met a chica at Castillo that asked for $200 for 1 hour. hard choice for hobbying..I pick Jaco only because of other outdoor activities...but u can't go wrong with either.
Jaco has the beach and is walkable (flat) with many good restaurants along with the cocal and Oz which are full of beautiful chicas walking thru. Oz is a cool open air sports bar that turns into nightclub atmosphere around 9. Cocal has live music Thurs- Sat at backbar. Both are expensive places to drink and chicas are trying to charge more than what they would get in San Jose.
I don't really hangout much in San Jose but do enjoy when I do.
Cheaper pussy and I think the chicas have a better attitude than when they are in Jaco. Downtown area is walkable but hilly and you really have to know where the massage places are. Toarmina and Sportsmans are ok places and have beautiful chicas there. But for me, not really much going on outside of fucking.

San Jose has lots of old historical artifacts that have been there since the Spanish Colonial days. Also, they have several good museums downtown. But I do get your point that for a guy in party mode there is not much other than the hooker hotels. For the budget minded guy there are cheap nice chica friendly hotels like La Amistad and Hotel Little Havana. And there are numerous pensions (whore houses) for around $40.

Costa Rica is closer and safer according to reports I have read. But it is not as cheap as most people expect. Anything they have to import is more expensive than here. But the girls are cheaper and that is what we go for. Also, most of the girls are girl next door types. Not many crack whore tyes like you find here. The best part is that it is completely legal as long as she is an adult and you deal directly with her. And unlike here you can openly discuss activities before hand.
