Republicans Are Being Stupid Again
Both Boehner and McConnell are telling the President they will not allow any tax increases. Have they learned nothing? I've explained before how tax increases on the rich are irrelevant, but here they go. It's like they don't even WANT to win another election.
Here's what they should do. Roll over on income taxes. Let the President, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi have their way with the income tax code. Right now, Obama has people convinced that the only reason we have a deficit and can't spend more on new programs is because the rich aren't paying "their fair share." It's a load of crap, but people believe that.
So I say, call him on it. Harry and Nancy will cringe in the corner once they find out they will have to raise taxes on their wealthy friends. Take away the excuse that the "Republicans are blocking us" on taxes. Make them put up, or shut up. We all know that the "rich" aren't going to pay any more than they want to. We all know that with any tax increase, there will be loopholes for their friends to exploit. And we also know that even a huge tax increase will have little or no effect on the deficit.
IT'S THE SPENDING, STUPID! There is not enough wealth to tax to make a dent in the deficit. So let them do what they want, then show them to be the idiots that they are. The rich won't care.
This stupid tax warfare is a charade. C'mon, Republicans! It doesn't take any balls to stonewall tax increases. Show some guts, let the Democrats have it. You're looking like fools, and like you intentionally want to lose.
You could turn this into a winning argument for you by being able to say, "See, we supported higher taxes like the Democrats wanted, and it got us nowhere." Then maybe people will listen.
But no. Republicans are stupid. I hope the party fades into oblivion.

Obie was elected on a platform where everyone knew his goal was to raise taxes on the top 2% ... thats no big surprise, voters are expecting it.
let the tax cuts sunset, then write new tax codes lowering taxes for lower brackets and leave the top brackets exactly where they were when bush took office.
if the house refuses to play ball then they refuse to lower taxes, the shoe is on the other foot and they break their precious pledge. Its been their way for 12 years, fukem, time to make those difficult decisions they yammer about 24/7

And their stupidity and ridiculous stubbornness is a surprise how? After all, they have to appease the god Grover Norquist.

They will continue to blame everyone else except themselves. Heck, Mr. Rove said today that Obama intimidated white voters. Since when are white people intimidated? And Latinos are now the scapegoat too. 2 days after the election and they're already pissing off the demographic that can help them remain relevant. Again, as an immigrant, the GOP will never get my vote, and to be clear, this time I voted for anyone who wasn't republican or democrat and if democrat or republicans were the only options, I didn't vote in those races.

The level of republican cluelessness as to why they lost, and how to fix it, truly is astonishing. But, is anyone really surprised? Right now, the GOP is controlled by two factions: the old white guys who are never going to change, and the crazy whackadoo teabaggers who want to implement change that the vast majority of the American people don't agree with. It's not a winning combination.
If the GOP wants to be anything but the opposition party, they need to start figuring out ways to include women, blacks and hispanics in the party. And, based on the statements of their leadership the past few days, I don't see any effort like that on the horizon. It may be the beginning of another long long stretch in the wilderness for the GOP.
God, I fucking hope so.

First of all, I would stop the SS cut that is stealing from that trust fund. Second, I would allow the Bush/Obama tax cuts to expire. If more taxes are the answer to our "revenue" problems, then we should all pitch in to "save" ourselves. Along with those tax increases an equivalent amount of spending has to be cut from the "budget". Increase the capital gains taxes to 25% and eliminate the earned income tax credit.
Raising taxes on one segment of the population is like pissing on a forest fire or adding a grain of sand to the beach. If there is going to be sacrifice in order to keep[ spending like there is an endless money supply then shouldn't we all participate in that sacrafice?
Let's see what happens to our economy by taking this path.
I have no issue with taxes going up across the board.
While we are at it. Let's rewrite the tax code to eliminate all deductions for corporations and increase the tax on them no matter the size including S corp.
Also we need to eliminate all deductions for individuals across the board.
I am sure we can tax our way out of this bad economic situation, reduce the debt, and have a balanced budget if we would only raise taxes and eliminate deductions.
While we are at it, we need more government employees as we all know there are far to few based on how long and how hard it is to get the government to do something. Make sure they are all unionized so they can never be terminated too.
We need the government to build high speed rail and take over the airline industry reeducing the number of flights and allowing people the great opportunity of traveling by government run trains. Airlines would be reserved for only the top party officials.
Forward, yes we can.

CJ why do you have to lie about this crap. Still afraid to admit the truth. Raise taxes on the top 2%??? Obama wants to raise taxes on anyone making over $250,000 a year even though it has been explained to him (and you) numerous times about how many small businesses are taxed as individuals. Obama wants to raise taxes on the top 25% or more. Start talking truth.
As for COG, if as you say the GOP will take a hit for not raising taxes and we all know that raising taxes cost jobs then it looks like the GOP is taking the honorable position of trying to save American jobs at the risk of their own. On the other hand, the democrats are saying that we don't give a rat's ass about American jobs, we just want to increase our power.
As for Timpage, he is still a raving racist and what he thinks about anything is irrelevant.

There has been so much talk about how little the rich pay in taxes. What about those who get paid in cash and don't report that income? I know of several lawyers who get paid in cash and don't report 1/2 of what they make. Or hairdressers who do the same. Or waiters/waitresses or even our own providers on this board. I bring this up because I had heated arguments with a few of my friends (lawyers, hairdressers, etc.) who are democrats and bitched about how Romney pays so little in taxes. I asked them why they don't report all their income. They got pissed. Before anyone brings it us, YES republicans do the same. My point is that if you're gonna bitch about something, don't be part of the problem. Do your fair share.

We could end this problem if we would repeal the income tax and went to a more sensible, understandable and more liberty producing tax structure.
But Congress won't give up the power the income tax gives them.
